Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 405

Chapter 406:

“Why do you say that?” I asked with a helpless smile.

Lucky? My parents divorced when I was a child, and I grew up in poverty. As an adult, I became estranged from my biological father. Herbert had brought me nothing but heartache. My first child had died at birth. I was on the verge of becoming enemies with Betty, and she was about to raise a child alone. My career held no outstanding achievements apart from obtaining a CPA certificate.

Yet, Jane had a different perspective.

“Mr. Wharton is incredibly good to you. He respects you in everything. Now that you’re pregnant, he’s constantly worried about you. He personally changes your bed sheets and bedding. Every morning, he wakes up early to buy fresh vegetables, meat, and fish. He insists that food bought earlier in the morning is fresher.”

Her words left me stunned. I had assumed that all the fresh produce and fruit in the refrigerator had been bought by the housekeeper. I never imagined he was the one doing it himself.

“Miss Stepanek, I truly envy you for finding such a good man,” Jane added with admiration.

Bella’s POV:

I didn’t continue listening to Jane and went back to my room. I didn’t want to cause any more trouble for Klein, but I realized I had been doing so all along. I hadn’t expected that Klein would get up so early every day to buy fresh meat and vegetables for me. He was always busy with work, often so caught up in it that he could hardly get enough sleep.

But I knew that even if I protested, Klein wouldn’t change. He would just smile, comfort me, and continue taking care of me.

I had to eat, sleep on time every day, and take good care of my body. Perhaps, once I recovered, he would let me go.

Why was it that the person I loved wasn’t Klein? If I had just happened to like him, everything might have been perfect. But love wasn’t something I could control.

What a pity. The person I loved wasn’t Klein.

In the days that followed, I tried my best not to worry Klein. I ate and slept more, and my condition gradually improved.

On the afternoon of the weekend, Klein came back in a casual outfit.

“Why are you back so early today?” I asked, surprised to see him sweaty. Klein was usually busy with his work and often couldn’t rest on weekends. It was common for him to work overtime.

Laughing, Klein sat down on the couch. In a tired voice, he said, “I went to play golf with William. Alas, I haven’t exercised for a long time. I’m really tired!”

William? Emma’s current boyfriend?

I could still remember William’s looks. He was indeed handsome and rich. No wonder Emma cared about him so much.

I turned and walked into the kitchen. I poured a cup of black tea, then brought it to Klein.

“Do you need some tea?” I asked with a smile.

Klein hurriedly took the cup, raised it, and gulped down all of the black tea in one go.

“So tasty!” he said, nodding with appreciation. He seemed to be in a very good mood today.
