Chapter 372:
With that, Lily returned to her seat and focused on her work. Despite her cheerful demeanor, I couldn’t shake the heaviness in my chest. My mind was clouded, and I found it hard to concentrate on my tasks. From that day forward, I made a conscious decision to stay in my routine. I would only go between the company and the staff dormitory. If I went out to buy food, I would do so with my colleagues, not alone.
I thought that staying on this strict path would keep me safe from Herbert.
After all, it was impossible for Herbert to take me away by force in a crowded place. If Ella asked me to deliver documents again, I would refuse.
I didn’t know whether it was my actions that worked or if he had simply lost interest in me, but a week had passed, and Herbert hadn’t bothered me anymore.
One afternoon, as I was about to finish work, Lily suddenly rushed over, smiling brightly.
“Bella, Allie’s store has new arrivals! Do you want to go take a look after work?”
I hadn’t bought Klein the casual clothes I had promised, so I agreed. After work, I went to Allie’s store with Lily. I chose a pair of pants, a short-sleeve T-shirt, and a pair of sneakers. After the discount, it all came to less than $1,000.
Before I bought the items, I sent pictures of the clothes and shoes to Klein via WhatsApp. He quickly replied with a few smiley faces and sent me his clothing sizes.
In the evening, as we walked out of the store, Lily smiled and said, “Bella, Allie’s husband is so nice. He gave us such a good price.”
I smiled in return.
“Next time, we’ll treat Allie to a nice meal.”
“Yes,” Lily nodded. She was carrying two men’s T-shirts in her bag. I asked, “Do you have a target?”
Just then, her phone rang. Ring… ring… Lily answered it.
“I’m already out… Okay… I’ll see you later!”
Her tone was cheerful, and her expression was sweet. After a moment, she turned to me and said, “Bella, I can’t have dinner with you tonight. I… have a date.”
I smiled and teased, “Do you want that gentleman to try on the clothes you bought?”
“You’re right,” she said with a sweet smile.
“Boyfriend?” I asked, curious.
“He’s not a boyfriend yet. We’re still on a date. Well, I’m in a hurry. See you, Bella!”
With that, Lily turned and ran off with her bag. After she left, I noticed a courier company nearby. I wanted to send the clothes to Klein as soon as possible. Standing at the crosswalk, waiting for the light to change, I suddenly saw a black Bentley driving toward me. When I saw the car’s plate number, my body tensed, and I couldn’t help trembling…
Bella’s POV:
Before I could react, the Bentley suddenly accelerated and rushed toward me. It stopped just inches away. The screeching of the tires left two black marks on the road. I was startled.
The next moment, the rear door opened, and a man in a white shirt stepped out of the car. It was Herbert!
