With that, she raised her hand to slap me.
I quickly reached out and grabbed her wrist. She struggled, her anger boiling over. I stared at Selina and said, “Selina, I advise you not to make trouble for me again. If you do, I’ll fight you to the end. My life isn’t worth much anymore.”
I shook her hand off violently. If she continued to bully me, I would really fight back. At that moment, I felt completely desperate. My life seemed colorless, and everything else felt insignificant.
“Do you think I’m afraid of you?” Selina’s voice was less forceful now.

Finally, I said to her, “If you don’t want to be exposed, stop doing those things. Everyone knows what you did. You’re the one responsible for getting yourself fired.”

Bella’s POV:
In the evening, I returned home.
Joey said, “I’ve prepared dinner. We can have some wine tonight.”
“Okay,” I nodded in response.
Soon, the table was filled with red wine and a lavish spread of food. The dishes Joey had prepared were sumptuous, filling the entire table.
Joey poured me a glass of red wine, raised her glass, and smiled.
“Come on, let’s say goodbye to the past and start fresh. Tomorrow, let’s find a job together!”
I put my glass down. Joey immediately noticed and asked, “Bella, what’s wrong? Are you still feeling uncomfortable?”
“No!” I quickly lifted my head to deny it. Then, more seriously, I said, “Joey, I’ve been thinking about it all afternoon, and I’ve made a decision.”
“What decision? Don’t scare me,” Joey responded, her expression concerned.
I took a deep breath and said, “I’ve decided to leave the city for a while and find a job in a neighboring city.”
Joey looked surprised.
“The neighboring city? But you don’t have any friends or relatives there, and—”
I knew Joey was concerned, but I had already made up my mind. I interrupted her gently, “This place holds too much sadness for me. Every familiar corner just reopens old wounds. I need a fresh start in a new environment. I have to go.”
Joey lowered her head, thinking for a moment, then looked up at me.
“I understand. You should go where you can heal. Time will help you forget everything. Actually, I should go with you, but… my current situation…”
I quickly took her hand and said, “Joey, my dear friend, I know you want to be there for me, but I also know how hard it is for you. You have to go back to take care of your mom every week. Trust me, it won’t be long. I’ll probably come back after I’ve recovered—maybe in a year or two. By the way, there’s still half a year left on the rent here. You can continue living here. I also just withdrew $2,000 from the bank. You can use it for now.”
I pulled the cash from my bag and placed it on the table.
