Chapter 263:
Klein’s smile was forced, and he awkwardly placed the flowers on the table by the bed.
“I’m leaving now.”
“Hurry up and leave,” Herbert said.
Once Klein had left, Herbert walked to the head of the bed and threw the flowers into the trash can by the door.
I wanted to laugh. I guessed that he was jealous, just as I had been when I saw him interacting with the nurse.
Herbert sat down angrily in the chair, not saying a word, his gaze fixed on the room. I knew it was best not to mess with him right now, so I sneaked into the bathroom.
I spent quite some time in there, and when I came out, I leaned against the wall and walked back in.
“Why do you always seduce different men?” he asked.
Herbert stared at me. His voice wasn’t loud, but it was filled with frustration.
I really wanted to refute him, but then I reminded myself that I was supposed to be deaf now, and I couldn’t hear anything. So, I could only pretend that I didn’t hear him.
I sat calmly by the bed, but in my mind, I was arguing against his words. I had always seen Klein as a boss, as a friend. Realizing how much Klein felt about me, I immediately wanted to explain myself.
I had never intended to seduce him. The next time I looked for a job, I would be sure to find an older man to avoid situations like this. I lowered my head, feeling his gaze on me. I didn’t know how to respond.
After a while, he finally came over and wrote a few words on a piece of paper.
“I’m going to work.”
He pushed the paper toward me, turned around, picked up his trench coat, and quickly left the ward. Once he left, I immediately relaxed.
The arrival of Klein and Vivian had exceeded my expectations.
What should I do now? Should I immediately admit that I could hear and get discharged from the hospital?
No! Since Herbert had hired a lawyer for me, I feared it wouldn’t be wise to leave the hospital without permission.
Herbert and his lawyer believed that my hearing hadn’t fully recovered yet, but now that I could hear, how should I explain this to him? If he found out that I had lied to him, would he be angry?
Bella’s POV:
That afternoon, Joey brought some fruit to the hospital to visit me. I quickly pulled her to my side and whispered, “I can hear you.”
Joey was very surprised, then asked, “Why didn’t you tell anyone?”
“I was anxious about it,” I replied.
Joey thought for a moment and said, “You could keep pretending for a few more days and make Vivian anxious. It’s too much for her to hit someone before understanding the full situation.”
“If I recover, they’re willing to compensate me,” I said.
“That’s good. You must have lost your job. If you don’t even have compensation, how will you manage? It’s Vivian’s fault, and she should compensate you. Don’t refuse it.”
Joey added.
