Chapter 255:
Just then, my stomach growled twice.
I was hungry.
Right in front of me was my favorite bun, brought by Herbert.
I glanced at the door and, noticing he had left, decided I shouldn’t waste the food. I should just eat it.
So, I picked up my chopsticks and began to eat.
The bun was particularly delicious. Whenever he bought something, he would always choose the best, the most expensive. Of course, it was delicious! I ate it bite by bite, thinking to myself that this bun might be the only comfort I’d have for the next couple of days. The past two years of my pregnancy had been incredibly difficult.
While I was eating happily, I caught sight of a man standing at the door from the corner of my eye.
I choked on my food.
Oh my god! Why had he come back? And behind him was a nurse, pushing a folding bed. His sudden appearance startled me. The food got stuck in my esophagus, and I started coughing violently, desperately searching for water.
Good heavens! It felt like my esophagus was about to explode! Just then, Herbert handed me a glass of water. I didn’t hesitate and drank it down in big gulps.
Once I finished the water, the food in my esophagus finally settled into my stomach, and I felt a bit better.
I turned to look at Herbert.
Why had he suddenly come back?
Bella’s POV:
The nurse set up the folding bed in an open space in front of the window, then thoughtfully laid the bedding out. Afterward, she said something to Herbert with a smile.
I couldn’t hear what they were talking about, but I noticed the affection in the nurse’s eyes as she looked at Herbert, like a little white rabbit seeing a carrot or a little mouse seeing a piece of cheese.
This was the charm of Herbert!
About two minutes later, the nurse left reluctantly.
Thinking about the gentle smile on Herbert’s face as he spoke to the nurse, I couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable.
I admitted it—I was jealous because I liked Herbert.
When he talked to me, he was always so fierce. Just a moment ago, he had smashed my phone, but now he was speaking softly to the nurse in front of me.
I noticed there was still half a bun left, but I didn’t feel like eating it.
“Are you full?”
This time, Herbert didn’t use his phone to type. Instead, he took out a small notebook from his pocket and began to write with a pen.
I rolled my eyes and tried to calm down.
The next moment, I snatched the pen from Herbert’s hand and quickly wrote a sentence under his words:
“Why did you come back?”
