Chapter 251:
I quickly typed a message on my phone.
“Please don’t tell my mom that I’m hospitalized. She’s mentally weak. If she finds out I’m deaf, she won’t be able to handle it.”
Herbert nodded, then looked at me with a frown. He took out his phone and typed a message.
“You’re not deaf. It’s just a temporary loss of hearing.”
“Anyway, don’t tell my mom,” I emphasized.
Herbert nodded in agreement.
He looked at me for a moment, then stretched out his large hand to rest on my shoulder. After a brief pause, he turned and left the room.
I could probably guess what he wanted to say. It was his way of offering deep encouragement and comfort. I watched his back as he disappeared from the room and felt a sense of relief.
In that moment, I realized that maybe I had misunderstood him a lot in the past, no matter what we had been through.
Herbert was truly a good person!
Bella’s POV:
In the morning, I sent a text to Joey, asking her to come to the hospital during lunch break.
This hospital wasn’t too far from the Wharton Group. At noon, as I was having lunch, the door to the ward opened, and Joey walked in. At that moment, I still couldn’t hear any sound, so I could only see Joey’s anxious expression and the movement of her lips as she spoke.
I lowered my head and took out my phone. I typed:
“Joey, my eardrums are damaged, and I’m temporarily deaf, so we can only communicate in writing.”
Joey was stunned. She quickly took out her phone and typed, “How did this happen?”
“I’ll explain later. First, call my mom and tell her I went abroad on a temporary business trip. She can’t reach me by phone. I’ll contact her when I return.”
I looked at Joey.
She nodded and dialed my mom’s number.
Today, my mom had called me several times, but I hadn’t answered any of them. I was afraid that if she found out about my condition, she’d be too worried.
That’s why I asked Joey for help.
Soon, Joey ended the call and typed:
“Don’t worry. Your mom doesn’t know what’s going on with you. What happened?”
Joey sat beside me. I sighed and explained everything that had happened recently. Joey was very upset. She typed on her phone:
“Vivian has gone too far! Why did she hit you like that? And Klein—his girlfriend hit you, but he didn’t stop her…”
Joey kept typing:
“Vivian deliberately hurt you. Why didn’t you call the police? Even if they are lawyers, don’t be afraid. It’s Vivian’s fault!”
I typed back, feeling conflicted:
“Klein didn’t actually know that Vivian was causing trouble for me. He’s helped me a lot. If my ears recover faster, I don’t want to press charges against them.”
