“Didn’t you ask for a divorce? I was just cooperating with you,” Herbert said, looking innocent.
“Cooperating with me?” I laughed bitterly.
“Ha…”
I was so angry that I couldn’t even speak. Herbert stepped forward, placed his hand on my shoulder, and said softly, “Let’s not be in a dilemma, okay?”
Bella’s POV:
On more than one occasion, Herbert had said that he had nothing to do with Caroline.
But his actions contradicted his words.
Caroline was still by his side—once, and even now!
Considering Herbert’s character, if he truly didn’t care about her or have feelings for her, would he allow her to remain a part of his life? Would he continue to accompany her?
If he didn’t love her, would he keep her photo?
No, it was impossible!
I had expelled Herbert.
The door stood between us. I leaned against the wall, tears flowing from my eyes uncontrollably.
It was only after a long time of not hearing anything outside that I reached for the door. There was no one there. He had already left.
I felt even worse. I had pushed him away with reason, but my feelings were still tortured.
It felt as if I were being torn apart…
No matter how much it hurt, life had to go on.
I couldn’t let him ruin my life again.
I had to pull myself together and keep going.
Klein’s POV:
Time passed quickly. It had been three days since Herbert left on his business trip. On this particular day, I was reading a case when my cell phone suddenly rang. I glanced at it and saw it was Gaynor calling. I quickly answered.
“Mr. Wharton, I’ve run into some difficulties right now. What should I do?”
Gaynor’s voice was full of anxiety.
Immediately, I asked, “Gaynor, is something wrong with Lucas?”
“No, Lucas is doing fine. It’s me… I have a severe cold, and I’m running a high fever. I’m worried it could affect Lucas, but I can’t find anyone to temporarily take care of him. Mr. Wharton, what do you think I should do? The children’s immune systems are so weak. I don’t want Lucas to suffer from this cold because of me.”
Gaynor explained.
I lowered my head, thinking for a moment before saying, “I’ll find a temporary nanny to take care of Lucas for a few days. Once you recover, you’ll continue looking after him.”
“This won’t do. We can’t have just anyone take care of Lucas. Mr. Wharton doesn’t want too many people knowing about him. If someone has to take care of him, it should be someone you trust completely.”
