Chapter 65:
The farther we drifted from my father’s pack, the more I felt an unsettling disconnection, as if a piece of me was being severed. Unconsciously, I began to embrace a new reality.
A cruel one.
Through blurred vision, I kept my eyes fixed on the back of the car, staring through the tinted glass, hoping—praying—that I would see my parents’ figures emerge from the thick cloud of dust.
I wished for a miracle, for some twist of fate that would see them sneaking me away, stealing me back before the hulking man beside me could notice.
But life wasn’t a fairytale.
The dust billowed behind us as the car surged forward, leaving behind the gravel roads and merging onto smooth asphalt.
A second black SUV followed closely behind.
I couldn’t help but wonder who was inside.
Bodyguards, perhaps?
Resigned to my fate, I curled up into a ball, hugging my knees to my chest as I stared blankly at the sleek black leather seat beneath me.
I tried to silence the storm of thoughts raging in my mind, but they refused to leave me in peace.
What did it mean to become the Alpha King’s property?
The more I tried to imagine, the emptier my mind became.
Despite being treated like a servant for years, I had never been claimed as property.
But the horror in my parents’ eyes when they received the news told me enough.

How bad was it?
Being his property meant I belonged to him.
For life.
And he could do whatever he wanted with me.
I was just a property. My feelings were irrelevant, my opinions were trash, and my sole purpose was to please him until my last breath. Panic seized me as I realized that I was living for the Alpha King. All my goals and future achievements in life were now in the past. My life was in King Damon’s hands. I was only alive because he permitted it, and if he wished, he could order my termination.
The more I thought about that, the louder the alarm rang in my head. Driven by an unknown force, I rested my gaze on the man whose eyes were fixed on the road. He didn’t notice me, right? He was wearing dark sunglasses, so I couldn’t tell if he was watching me or not. But I would take my chances. Who knows? Maybe this was the push I needed to change my horrible fate.
Slowly, my hand crept toward the car door, leaning on it briefly before attempting to open it.
“That was a foolish move,” his harsh voice boomed, making me jump in fright as I was about to push the door open.
My hand froze in place, and my heartbeat accelerated. It felt like my heart would burst out of my chest at the rate it was pounding. Confusion hit me hard as I withdrew my hand, lowering my gaze to the floor. I didn’t know whether to apologize or sit still as if nothing had happened.
I dismissed the idea of lying that popped into my head. There was no point—he had already caught me.
