Chapter 311:
“You can call me whatever you want,” I told him. His tiny fingers reached for my hair, pushing it behind my ear and then softly caressing my cheek.
“You’re so pretty, Aurora. My fathers are lucky to have you in their lives,” he said sweetly.
My heart did a quick flip at his words, as if it were melting under the warmth of his innocence.
“Thank you, dear,” I said, pulling him into a brief but warm embrace.
“Can I play, Mama?” he asked as we broke apart. A part of me missed his small frame, the scent of raspberries on him, and his soft hair.
“Sure, Adrian, but be careful,” she warned, blowing him a kiss, which he eagerly returned.
Silence fell over us as I watched Adrian sprint to the riverbank, busying himself with seashells.
“Mom, look, I caught a fingerling!” he announced proudly, holding up the small fish.
“Good boy, now throw it back into the water. That’s where it belongs,” she instructed, watching as he carefully placed the fish back into the river.
Satisfied, she let out a sigh of relief, her gaze shifting to mine.
“Kids… you take your eyes off them for a second, and they’ll do the most unimaginable things,” she laughed briefly, casting a quick glance at Adrian.
“That was the name his fathers decided for him,” she paused, as if reflecting. Pain flickered in her eyes. “He’s strong, daring, playful, calculative, and soft. Just like us. He took all of our traits,” she said, staring off into space, as if lost in thought.
“When I thought I was about to live my dream life, it was snatched away from me by the one person I would’ve gladly laid down my life for. My best friend—she lured me to the river to end it all.”

My heart began to race, pounding loudly in my chest.
I knew it.
“I’m sorry about that…” I started to speak, but she cut me off, locking me with a serious glare.
“Rosa must not get my position. She wants it so badly that she’ll eliminate anyone she sees as an obstacle. Do whatever it takes to stop her. That position belongs to you.”
I was too stunned to respond.
“You’re their second-chance mate. Before I died, I begged the Moon Goddess to give them a second chance at love. And I’m sorry for the way Damon treated you, and for the loss of your sons.” A bitter expression crossed her face as her gaze lingered on my flat stomach.
“Sons?!” I gasped in shock, my hand instinctively falling to my stomach.
“Yes, sons. The heartbeats of the other two were faint,” she explained. “Forgive Damon. He makes rash decisions and hates feeling betrayed. But when it comes to love, he’s the softest. Just give him time, and he’ll come around.”
She suddenly fell silent, her eyes studying the sky for a few moments. The crescent moon was swallowed by the grey clouds.
“Adrian?” she called, turning her attention to her son, who had a pile of seashells in front of him.
“Mama?” he responded, a shell slipping from his hand as he turned to face her.
“It’s time. We have to go,” she said, before glancing at me. “It was nice having you around, Aurora.”
