Chapter 256:
“Why did you hit me?” I asked, staring at him, bewildered.
“To prove to you that it’s not a dream. Your brothers are back for good,” he said, a proud smile on his face. “I’m so happy to see you like this. It’s been a long time since you genuinely smiled. Their absence shook you to your core and brought out your darker side. Thank goodness that’s finally over.”
It was finally over.
My grief, my demons, the guilt that had been gnawing at my heart—it was all gone.
I couldn’t deny that, since Devin and Dax’s return, a huge part of me had changed.
I was consumed by them. I didn’t mind neglecting the affairs of the pack just to be closer to them.
From dusk till dawn, I stayed by their side, telling them stories of our past and promising to protect them.
Sometimes, I read their favorite books and sang their favorite songs. The last time I did this, it felt like something from a distant memory, but I found myself wanting to repeat it again and again.
It was a part of me that had long been buried, but it was starting to resurface.
Even though they were still in a coma, I felt like they could hear me. I felt like, somehow, they would remember everything once their memories were restored. I couldn’t wait for that moment.
I couldn’t wait for the Demon Triplet Alpha Kings to return. Jasper’s eyes scanned the mountain of books in his hands before glancing at me.
“Why take so many books if you won’t stay there for long?” he asked.

“Who says I won’t stay there for long?” I cocked an eyebrow, giving him a stern look.
“The doctor. You’ve been elongating the visiting hours—”
“And I will elongate them as much as I want. I’m the Alpha King, and my wish is everyone’s command,” I declared proudly, leaving no room for discussion.
Jasper’s sigh reached my ears, but I ignored it.
To hell with the doctor. He wouldn’t dare say such a thing in my presence if he didn’t want to lose his tongue.
Despite acting tough, fear loomed in my heart. After my brothers’ return, I felt like I shouldn’t leave them or take my eyes off them for even a second. I was scared they would vanish in the blink of an eye.
It had taken years to find them, and I wouldn’t lose them again. I would protect them with the last drop of my blood, I swore it to the Moon Goddess.
I felt Jasper’s intense gaze burning into my face, but I ignored him. I was too engrossed in thoughts of my brothers.
If not for the warning, I almost felt like asking them how they had survived on their own for all those years.
“You’re so handsome when you smile,” Jasper said, his eyes resting on my happy face.
“Shut up, Jasper,” I hissed, irritated by his behavior.
“It’s been a week, and you’ve been full of joy and expectations. I can’t wait for you to return to your old self, to have a complete family. I’m happy to see you happy. Your days of agony and thoughts of suicide are finally over. You’re free from hallucinations and punishing yourself with wolfsbane.”
