Chapter 248:
“Yes. It took me a few days to reach your place, though I was slow because I was pregnant, hungry, and cold,” I replied.
It had been two days in the woods. Two days of surviving on edible fruits, roasted animals, and stream water. But they made it bearable—exchanging stories, carrying me on their backs whenever I got too exhausted, and even having hot sex under the moonlight.
The massive castle was finally in view, but it was already evening. I doubted Damon would receive visitors at this hour.
The closer we got to the gate, the more my heart thundered in fear. Sweat trickled down my forehead, and I began to tremble.
“Stop!” I ordered, straining my ears after sensing movement in the bushes.
The rustling leaves confirmed my suspicions.
We were surrounded, and one wrong move could end our lives.
“Stay put, we are surrounded,” I whispered, holding Devin and Dax as we froze in place.
“Who are you, and state your business?” a deep, hoarse voice called from behind us, the cold steel of a gun pressing against my head. It didn’t take long for a group of warriors to circle us, their weapons trained on us.
“We don’t mean harm. We just want to see the King,” I said, my voice steady despite the fear rising in my chest.
Damon
“I have pressing issues to attend to, and the last thing I want is to be part of your foolery!” I growled in anger, storming into my bedroom.
The stress of today’s work weighed heavily on my shoulders, like an unbearable burden. It felt as though tons of bricks had been placed upon me, draining my energy and leaving me exhausted.

I left the office in haste, my eyes heavy with sleep, and a dull ache stinging at my temples.
The last thing I wanted was for a guard to inform me about three people asking for me, especially when two of them bore a striking resemblance to me.
At first, I thought he was joking. But then, I saw the seriousness in his eyes.
I wanted to believe him, but at the same time, I held myself back. What if he was sent to mock me about my past?
The only people who resembled me were Devin and Dax, and they were long dead. There was no way he could have seen them—unless he was dead too.
Perhaps he was drunk.
How lucky he was. No one dared to make me face my past in a mocking manner and walk away unscathed.
Despite my attempts to sniff his breath for traces of alcohol, there were none, which left me utterly confused.
I am fire. Once triggered, I will destroy whatever crosses my path and leave it desolate.
But that evening, all I wanted was a good night’s sleep. I wasn’t in the mood to slit anyone’s throat.
“My King, they look exactly like you.” His words echoed in my mind, quickening my breath.
I squinted, trying to get a clearer view of his face as the hallway remained dim.
