Chapter 228:
“I’d rather stand, Uncle,” she replied, lowering her gaze to avoid meeting his eyes.
Silas felt challenged by the way someone’s eyes stayed on him. His expression darkened. “Nonsense!” he snapped, his eyes narrowing as he met hers. “Sit with me,” he insisted, gesturing toward the empty space beside him before settling his gaze back on Rosa, who hesitated before responding to his command.
“Besides, you deserve it for a job well done,” he added, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
“Thank you, Uncle,” Rosa said, her voice slightly shaky but filled with relief.
A wave of pride washed over her, and she allowed herself to relax as she settled into the chair beside him.
“Have some wine,” he said, grabbing an extra glass from the table and filling it.
“I knew you’d come, so I reserved this special wine just for you,” he chuckled, glancing briefly at her before focusing on the glass in his hand.
Rosa was about to lift the glass to her lips when Silas’ voice stopped her.
“I’m in a good mood today…” His voice trailed off, and he fell silent for a moment.
“Let’s make a toast to a new dispensation,” he declared, raising his glass to meet Rosa’s.
“To a new dispensation,” Rosa repeated, her nerves slowly melting into a smile, though she couldn’t shake her skepticism about the toast.
The soft clink of their glasses echoed in the room. Rosa quickly emptied the wine down her throat, extending her glass to Silas for a refill.
“You can have as much as you want, you deserve it. I know you’re as happy as I am,” Silas said, his laughter filling the air as he refilled her glass.

Rosa drained nearly all the contents in one go, shutting her eyes for a moment to embrace the stinging sensation. She liked that the wine was strong; it helped her mind process Silas’ words more clearly.
“You deserve to be happy,” Silas added, patting her shoulder.
Rosa quickly looked away, a frown settling on her face.
She wasn’t happy.
What did he mean by making a toast to a new dispensation? What was he planning behind her back?
Silas had been too eager, and that excitement made her suspicious. Since Aurora’s absence, Rosa had noticed Silas’ increasingly strange behavior. Every time she tried to confront him, he dismissed her, telling her not to disturb him.
She knew Silas too well to believe that he was supporting her without expecting something in return. He was a greedy bastard, obsessed with accumulating more power. Despite her attempts to ignore it, a nagging voice in her head reminded her of just how greedy he truly was.
She wished she knew Silas’ plan and why he agreed to help her without hesitation. Deep down, she knew it wasn’t just because he wanted her to become Luna.
Fear began to stir in her heart as her thoughts consumed her. Why was he so happy at Aurora’s absence?
According to her plan, she wanted Aurora gone so that she could convince Damon to make her his Luna. But Silas’ plans remained a mystery to her, and she hated that he kept her in the dark.
