Chapter 197:
But now, here I was, in my room, on my bed.
I didn’t have a history of sleepwalking—unless someone was…
A small smile played on my lips, and my cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
It had to be Dax.
I couldn’t help but notice the way his hazel eyes glowed when he stared at me. There was one time I noticed a ring forming in his pupil, but he was quick to blink, making it vanish.
The feeling was strange. Goosebumps prickled my skin. It felt as though another entity was staring at me.
As if that wasn’t enough, he always offered to dress my wounds whenever Devin was busy.
It baffled me how excited he seemed whenever it was time to treat my injury.
The animal trap had left a deep cut on my foot, making it sore and limiting my movement. If it weren’t for their timely intervention, I would have been paralyzed.
My hands rubbed my thighs, pressing them hard before I released my grip.
I couldn’t explain the strangely familiar tingling and spark that spread through me whenever our skin brushed against each other. Or maybe it was just my imagination.
I was certain they felt the same. I heard Dax’s breath turn harsh, and his fingers trembled.
But Devin, on the other hand, shot me a keen look when we felt the sparks. His gaze was so intense, it seemed to pierce through me. It had already been three weeks with them, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with their personalities.
Dax was carefree, playful, and didn’t take things too seriously, while Devin was resourceful, a critical thinker, patient, and a skilled strategist.

It didn’t take long before I began to develop feelings for both brothers, but I kept it to myself. I couldn’t love more than one, and I didn’t want to seem greedy. They had rescued me and provided for my basic needs. Trapping them with love was out of the question.
But if I were forced to choose between the two, I’d be left with no clear answer. Despite their contrasting personalities, they shared similar traits.
Their ruthlessness and strength left me in awe, especially when they killed a large animal with nothing but their bare hands.
But above all, there was one thing that troubled me: their masks.
Why did they cover their faces when I was with them? Hadn’t I proven that I wasn’t a spy?
I sighed deeply, folding the duvet before tidying up the bed. As I hummed a song, I yanked open the curtains, letting the view of the woods outside greet me through the glass window.
“Hello,” I said, waving at the birds singing and chirping as if they could hear me. “Beautiful day, isn’t it?” They chirped louder in response, almost as though they were answering me.
The darkness slowly faded from the room, but it wasn’t enough to provide a clear view, as the sun hadn’t risen yet. My eyes drifted to the wall clock, which ticked steadily. It was 5 AM, and the day was still young.
I quietly left my room, picking up the brush as I began sweeping.
Devin and Dax would soon be awake, and I wanted to surprise them.
I wanted them to wake up to a clean house. It had been three weeks since they’d taken me in, and they had never allowed me to do any chores, especially after I had hurt myself and lost my baby. According to them, my body still needed time to heal.
