Chapter 190:
Most times, I saw myself on a throne, with two other men. I could identify one of the men as Dax, but the other one remained a mystery. Deep down, I felt like he was part of us.
He was one of us.
But how? Where was he?
Was he dead?
Sometimes, I hear a strange voice in my head, speaking to me, and then it goes silent. It feels buried inside me.
“Who are we, Dax?” I asked, my eyes glued to the moon.
“I wish I knew,” came the soft response.
With those words, I stretched out on the bed, adjusting the pillow beneath my head as I settled in to sleep.
A pained smile crossed my lips when my gaze landed on a picture on the wall.
“Keep resting, Father.” Though the man in the picture wasn’t my biological father, we referred to him as such.
He had been a rogue hunter. He told me stories of how he found Dax and me, almost lifeless, lying on the other side of a river during one of his nighttime hunts. Instead of finishing us off, he saved our lives and nursed us back to health.
At first, he thought we were rogues, but our scents proved otherwise. He harbored a deep hatred for rogues after they killed his wife. That tragic event turned him into a rogue hunter.
He spent most of his time in the woods.

After his death, we stayed in his house, unsure of where to go or which pack to join. I would always love him for everything he did for us.
I yawned tiredly, shutting my eyes as sleep began to take over.
I hadn’t slept much when I heard a loud crashing sound from outside.
Alarmed, I jumped awake, peeking out the window. It didn’t take long before faint cries filled the air.
“Dax?” I called, tapping him to wake him up. “I think our animal trap caught something large.” But Dax didn’t stir.
Frustrated by his deep sleep, I hit him harder.
I hated how heavy a sleeper he could be sometimes. “Fucking wake up, Dax,” I half-yelled. I made sure not to alarm the animal outside.
The trap wasn’t set tightly, and it could escape depending on how big the animal was.
“What’s up, Devin?” he groggily yawned, pushing my hand off his body. “I need quality sleep, bugger off.”
He turned to his side, shutting his eyes to go back to sleep.
“Our trap caught a large animal!” I shouted, and that was enough to snap him out of his slumber.
He rubbed his eyes, sitting up and staring at me.
“Come on, let’s go,” I urged, reaching beneath the bed for the weapons.
“You think we should take more?” Dax asked, his eyes scanning each weapon.
