Chapter 153:
The pain I felt in my heart was unbearable, almost as if it could tear me apart.
All thanks to Damon.
“Ma’am, you heard the King. You are not allowed to cry because it could affect the baby’s well-being, and that could pose a danger to—”
Before she could finish, I yanked the syringe from my arm in a rush of pain.
Fueled by a mix of anger and sorrow, I fled from the ward, letting my legs take me anywhere.
I didn’t care where I went, as long as I was far away from those selfish bastards.
But one wrong move sent me crashing to the floor, like a ton of bricks.
I didn’t bother to get up.
I lay there, wallowing in self-pity, as tears streamed down my face.
It didn’t take long before I realized I was beside the fountain in the garden, the gentle spray of water splashing against my body.
My hands slowly slid from my face and lightly rested on my exposed stomach.
It was so flat that I almost doubted a baby was growing inside of me.
Fear gripped my heart at the thought of how drastically my life had changed.
I was now a breeder.
The one who would be discarded like an animal after giving birth to her child.
My heart squeezed tightly at the thought that my days were numbered. I didn’t want to die.
I didn’t want this horrible life.
The Moon goddess must despise me so much to give me this destiny.
“Crying is bad for the baby,” a voice said behind me.

I didn’t need to raise my head to know who it was. His overpowering and domineering presence, paired with his authoritative voice, gave him away instantly.
“Go to your room!” he ordered.
“Go away!” I found myself protesting, my voice trembling with fear from my sudden outburst.
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
“It was an order,” he warned, his voice dripping with impending danger.
But I cared less.
My life would be over in a few months anyway. Besides, he couldn’t punish me—at least, not without affecting his son.
A strange sense of excitement surged within me at the thought of being immune to his orders. I would enjoy it while it lasted.
“Don’t you dare defy my orders,” he growled, his anger rising as he advanced toward me.
Before I could react, his rough hands grabbed mine, yanking me up and trying to force me to my feet.
Caught off-balance, I tripped over a stump, nearly falling to the floor.
But in the blink of an eye, Damon’s strong arms caught me before I could hit my head.
