Chapter 112:
I didn’t want to be overwhelmed by this strange feeling stirring in my chest.
Gently, I opened the door, careful not to startle her, peeking inside to see what she was doing.
Relief washed over me when I saw she was lying motionless on the bed.
Probably sleeping. Perfect timing.
I opened the door wider, stepping into the room before closing it quietly with one hand while the other held a bouquet of French marigolds.
After overhearing her conversation with Alex, I learned that marigolds were her favorite.
I took a short stride to the bed where she lay, placing the flowers gently on the table beside her. My weight shifted as I slowly sat on the bed, watching her soft snores escaping from her slightly open mouth.
Thanks to my sharp hearing, her snores were barely audible.
Her chest rose and fell steadily, the gentle rhythm of her heartbeat filling my ears.
I carefully pushed her long, wavy caramel hair away from her face, allowing me an unobstructed view of her.
Her long lashes rested gently against her cheeks, and her red lips were slightly parted, taking in soft breaths of air.
I didn’t mind sacrificing the whole day of work just to silently watch her.
Despite the marks and scars on her body, she was a sight to behold.
Guilt welled up inside me as I caught sight of the injuries she had endured.
She was healing slowly, not that she didn’t have her wolf, but from what I could tell, her wolf was on timeout—just like mine.

I missed my wolf, my companion.
His harsh words were unmatched. Alongside Jasper, he had always told me the truth, no matter how bitter it was to hear.
He didn’t sugarcoat anything. I felt my chest tighten as memories of how he deserted me flooded my mind.
If only I had listened to him and kept Ivy safe.
He never trusted Rosa. He warned me time and time again, but I was a fool to ignore him.
Rosa was Ivy’s best friend, and I didn’t want to ruin that relationship.
The day before Ivy died, he told me to keep her safe, to not let Rosa know where she was—but I failed. Heartbroken and angry, he left me, vanishing without a trace.
I had grown tired of blaming myself and begging for his return. I accepted the reality of my punishment. If deserting me was the price for Ivy’s death, I was ready to face it. Even if it meant I would never have another chance at a second mate.
It was a secret Jasper and I would take to our graves.
No one knew that I no longer had a wolf.
