Chapter 255:
“I don’t want to answer.”
I felt I had nothing to talk to Kennedy about.
The phone was still ringing.
Yanis blinked and made the decision for her. “He must have something to talk to you, you should give him the chance. If you ignore him, he wouldn’t have a chance to explain himself…”
Thinking about this, Yanis answered the phone and stood up to Charlotte’s stunned gaze.
“Mr. Kennedy, this is Yanis.”
Charlotte looked at her with wide eyes. She couldn’t hear what he said to Kennedy, but she could hear a little bit. When she came back, she handed the phone back to him.
Yanis but quickly ran to the outside of the room, Charlotte couldn’t hear what Kennedy said, she could only hear a few pieces, when she came back, Yanis handed the phone back to her.
“Wait a bit, Mr. Kennedy will come and get you.”
“You had him come?” Charlotte wrinkled her eyebrows. Suddenly something occurred to her, she turned around to grab her purse and walked out the door.
“What are you doing? Mr. Kennedy said he’d pick you up and made me say the address.”
“I don’t want to meet him.”
“I told him you were hurt and he got nervous. Maybe you should give him a chance to explain himself.” Yanis squeezed her shoulder and said looking at her seriously.
Charlotte looked at her stunned but said nothing.
Finally, she waited more than ten minutes at Yanis’ house and someone rang the doorbell. When Yanis went to open the door, Charlotte, who was sitting in the living room, heard Nathan’s voice: “Sorry to bother you.”
Then there was the sound of wheels rolling. Charlotte could feel Kennedy approaching without looking up.
She did not want to see Kennedy. She was sitting with her eyes lowered.
Probably because she had cried and her eyes were red, she was especially afraid to see him.
“Where did you hurt yourself?” Kennedy came in and saw her sitting there without looking up. He frowned and asked.
Charlotte said nothing, nor did she look up at him.
Yanis and Nathan were on the porch, giving them the space. She glanced at Nathan and shrugged her shoulders.
Nathan liked Yanis. She was smart and could be friends with Charlotte.
“I asked you a question.”
Until a cold, angry male voice came from the head, Charlotte was aware that Kennedy had stepped to her side.
With a moment of shock, Charlotte looked up and met his deep-set eyes.
Charlotte discovered that, although Kennedy was sitting in a wheelchair, he was a tall man. He was now looking at her with dark eyes.
However, upon seeing his red eyes, Kennedy’s gaze changed instantly. She raised her hand to grab his chin, “Have you cried?”
He paid no attention to her strength and Charlotte was hurt by it. Unexpectedly she made a soft sound. Kennedy frowned hard and loosened his hand to encircle her waist, then hugged her.
“What do you want?” exclaimed Charlotte, falling into Kennedy’s bosom.
At the thought of Yanis still there, she felt embarrassed and angry. She wanted to push him away, but Kennedy hugged her tightly. She pushed the steering wheel with one hand, “Come home with me.”
At the door, Yanis and Nathan saw them quickly move aside to make way for the two of them.
Charlotte wouldn’t stop struggling, but her strength was no match for Kennedy. She had to be forced to leave. Although he was sitting in a wheelchair, he seemed oblivious to this and embraced her.
Yanis urged Nathan, “Hurry up and follow them.”
“Thank you.” Nathan thanked him and quickly followed them.
Back at the house, Charlotte jumped out of Kennedy’s arms and said she could walk by herself. Then she went upstairs to the bedroom. Kennedy sensed that she was strange today and her red eyes touched his heart.
Thinking about the pair of earrings she chose today, she reached into her pocket and pulled out the little box. He opened it and looked at the sparkling earrings inside.
Nathan thought for a while and finally boldly stepped forward, “Mr. Kennedy, Miss Moore seems to be in a bad mood, why don’t you ……”
“Shut up.” Kennedy said in a cold voice, “I know what I should do.”
“But Mr. Kennedy…if you don’t move, I’m afraid Miss Moore will run away, and you will be sorry.”
Kennedy, “…”
“Miss Moore will know the truth sooner or later. Diana is her good friend. Although Miss Moore usually seemed quiet, she could not tolerate that, and you know her character.”
With that, Kennedy gave him a sharp look, which made Nathan startle. He turned away, as if he hadn’t said anything.
Kennedy followed Charlotte into the room.
Once she entered the room, the room seemed to have constricted with her breath all around. With her back to him, Charlotte tried to ignore him, but Kennedy wasn’t about to let go. He said to her.
“Where did you hurt yourself? Let me see.”
His voice sounded extraordinarily soft, as if he had done something wrong and was trying to cajole her.
Charlotte thought of Diana, she was sad and didn’t answer him, biting her lower lip hard.
Kennedy went to get the ointment and brought her a nightgown. “Take off your clothes, I’ll put the medicine on you and then you can put this on.”
He handed her the clothes, but Charlotte sat silently without reaching out to take them.
If it had been in the past, Kennedy would have been angry at being ignored, but in the last few days Charlotte was different, especially the way she now sat with red eyes like a bullied daughter-in-law, which made him feel sorry for her.
So Kennedy put her clothes on her side and said in a soft voice, “Just apply your medicine, okay?”
She continued to ignore him.
Kennedy thought about Nathan’s words. After a moment of silence, he reached out of his pocket to take the little box from her.
“This is for you. Don’t be smug, okay?”
Charlotte had been ducking her head and suddenly a delicate little box appeared in front of her. The shape of the little box looked very familiar to what she had seen before, but it was definitely not the same.
Charlotte finally made a move and reached out to take the box.
