Chapter 52:
Nathan closed his eyes instinctively, trying to make himself invisible.
He saw nothing.
Although he could still hear the lingering sound they made as they kissed. Couldn’t he wait for them to enter the room? Why did it have to be in the elevator?
The kiss didn’t last long, as Charlotte didn’t manage to breathe properly and sank into his arms weakly.
It wasn’t her first time. Kennedy released her body and squeezed her chin. She asked hoarsely, “What have you done to Manfred? He cares so much for you.” He even tried to lift her.
Did he give her permission?
Charlotte rolled a misty eye. In a muffled voice, she said, “Who…is Mr. Manfred?”
Kennedy raised her eyebrows and narrowed her eyes, “You don’t know him?”
“No.” She nodded amenably.
After a moment of silence, Kennedy asked unexpectedly, “Do you know who I am?” Nathan froze.
This was terrible.
Charlotte put her hand on his cheek. She stared at him for a while with curved lips, “Who are you?”
Kennedy’s face turned deathly pale. She didn’t even know him by the way.
Kennedy became depressed just thinking about it. He looked straight at her, “You have one more minute to think about who I am!”
“Kennedy!!!” Charlotte clearly shouted after he finished.
The elevator door opened. Nathan hesitated whether to push them out or not.
“You still haven’t answered my question, why…are you…butting into my business?” She left the conversation behind, after realizing that Kennedy was standing in front of her.
Kennedy felt a headache. She wouldn’t get off of him.
“Go back to my room.” Kennedy ordered in an icy voice. Nathan pushed them into the room relentlessly.
When they entered, Nathan wiped away the sweat, “Can I go now, Mr. Kennedy?”
“Wait. Get two maids to come.”
“Okay.”
Nathan was quick to have them come in and wait outside.
They made great efforts to get Charlotte out. She kept making noises. After putting her on the bed, they all worked up a sweat.
“You can go now.”
After they left, Kennedy rolled her wheelchair over to the bed. He fixed his gaze on her, who had already calmed down.
Kennedy was startled when she burst out, as if she was crying when they put her on the bed.
Now that he was in front of her and looking closely at her, she remained unmoved.
“One…one more drink, please!”
Charlotte suddenly muttered and turned away.
Kennedy showed a cold stare. She was very fond of drinking.
After a while, Nathan pushed open the door at the sound of Kennedy’s voice. He no longer looked around.
“Mr. Kennedy, these things have just arrived. They belong to Miss Charlotte.”
He picked them up and confirmed it. The bag was torn. “Get rid of them and throw the bag away.”
“Okay.”
“Then get some water in here.”
Nathan went out. When he returned, he set the bucket on the table before Kennedy asked him for it.
Kennedy was surprised, “You seem to know what I want to do.”
Nathan cracked a smile, “I can definitely read your mind, after working as your assistant for so long.”
Hearing that, Kennedy raised her eyebrows, “Really, you don’t know that I’m going to dump the bucket on her to wake her up?”
Nathan flinched, “You’re kidding, are you really going to do this?”
“Wring out the towel for me.”
Nathan sighed in relief. Mr. Kennedy was just teasing him.
He passed him the towel. Kennedy stepped forward and gently wiped his face. Charlotte seemed to feel uncomfortable about it. She shook off the towel and grumbled, “Don’t touch me…”.
Kennedy paused before continuing.
Charlotte hummed. She was about to strike when Kennedy reprimanded her, ‘Stop moving or I’ll throw you to the ground.’
Nathan whispered, ‘Kennedy is faking again!’
As this worked for Charlotte. She stood still and Kennedy began to wipe her forehead.
As time passed, Kennedy suddenly stopped and looked at her with furrowed brows.
What had happened?
Noticing the strange look on her face, Nathan followed Kennedy’s gaze.
Charlotte began to cry for no reason. She was lying quietly before.
Tears were streaming down her face. The pillow was soaked in a moment.
What… was wrong with her?
“Why?” she asked in a soft voice, still crying.
“Mom…I…I’m your daughter too…”
She choked back sobs and wrinkled her eyebrows tightly.
Nathan felt uncomfortable. He was overwhelmed by what he was seeing. Then he turned to see what Kennedy was doing.
Kennedy dropped his gaze with an unpredictable look. He handed the towel to Nathan impassively.
Nathan impassively, “Wipe it.”
Nathan took it upon himself to wipe it off. He handed it back to Kennedy in a cautious voice.
“Well… Mr. Kennedy – was Charlotte thinking about something sad?”
Kennedy didn’t answer. He wiped away her tears with his slender fingers, “You can go for now.”
“But you haven’t…”
“I know clearly about myself. I can do it on my own.”
After hearing that, Nathan rolled his eyes, “Don’t risk it, Mr. Kennedy! If you reveal your identity…”
“What can be exposed in this room?”
“Miss Charlotte… if she finds out…”
“Don’t worry.” Kennedy replied with a bored look, “It doesn’t matter if she knows. I’ll fix her myself if she talks recklessly.”
Nathan had nothing to say, but would he be ruthless enough to say it?
