Chapter 892:
Herbert responded seriously, “Ella is clearly trying to provoke a conflict. How could I fall into her trap?”
I couldn’t help but smile at his words. Stepping forward, I gave him a thumbs-up.
“You’re really a wise man.”
“Hurry up and tell me. What happened between you and Klein just now?” he asked, his tone lowering as he glanced around. Only when he saw that no one else was within a two-meter radius did he seem to relax.
Seeing his cautious behavior, I almost laughed but held it in. This man was so prone to jealousy. Even though he clearly minded, he had chosen to trust me in front of everyone.
I felt happy about that, and all I wanted to do now was calm him down. I didn’t want to argue with him over Klein. So, I stepped closer, took his arm, and smiled.
“Can I explain when we get back?”
Herbert’s expression softened, and he nodded, “That’s more like it.”
Just then, I looked up and noticed Klein entering the banquet hall. His face was solemn, and he walked quickly toward the exit. Behind him was Ella, looking anxious and clearly distressed. She struggled to keep up with his pace, nearly tripping in her high heels as she rushed to catch up with him, her long, thin frame stumbling a few times.
Watching them disappear toward the entrance of the banquet hall, I couldn’t help but shake my head. Ella had once been beautiful, graceful, confident, and bold. But Klein had always been her weakness, and for his sake, she had started changing who she was.
“Why are you shaking your head?” Herbert asked, looking down at me.
I looked up at him and replied, “Ella isn’t worthy of Klein.”
“Who is worthy of him then?” Herbert asked after a brief pause.
His deep, searching gaze made me instinctively reach out to touch his arm.
“What are you thinking? There are many people who could be worthy of him, but only I am worthy of you!”
Hearing this, Herbert immediately curled his lips into a smile.
“You’re the only one who dares to speak like this!”
“Am I wrong?” I raised my head and giggled at him.
“It should be said that you are the only person I like.” Herbert reached out and pulled me closer, gently tidying the loose strands of hair around my ear.
The touch of his fingertips and the tenderness in his eyes made me feel incredibly happy. Still, I smiled and whispered, “We’d better not be too intimate, okay? Today is a banquet hosted by the government, and all the big shots in the business world are here!”
I could feel everyone’s eyes on us, making me a little shy. My face flushed slightly, but Herbert just grinned.
“There’s no rule at this banquet saying no one can show off their love.”
At that moment, Herbert took my hand and started walking.
