With that, I grabbed the clothes I had packed and walked out of the master bedroom.

As soon as I stepped out the door, I heard a violent crash behind me.
I guessed it was the sound of Herbert’s fist hitting the wardrobe.
I paused, a sharp pain hitting my chest, but I stubbornly continued into the second bedroom.
Sitting on the bed, tears welled up in my eyes.
I didn’t know why we’d suddenly fought. I didn’t understand why Herbert seemed to have no patience for me now. Did couples who had been together for a long time always end up fighting like this?
Though I was upset, I eventually fell asleep that night, exhausted from the day.
The next morning, as I went downstairs, I saw that Herbert had already left for work.
“Mommy, Daddy’s back!”
Lucas, sitting at the dining table eating, shouted excitedly.
“Mommy, mommy!”
Lucky waved her tiny hands from Gary’s arms when she saw me.
“I see,” I said to Lucas, then walked over to Lucky, sitting down with her in my arms.
“Mommy, why do you seem unhappy now that Daddy is back?”
Lucas stared at my face with concern.
As I was feeding Lucky, I frowned when I heard him.
“What do you know, kid? Just finish your meal and get ready for kindergarten.”
Seeing that I was upset, Lucas lowered his head and muttered, “Women are troublesome. Mommy was looking forward to Daddy’s return, but now that he’s back, Mommy’s unhappy.”
“What are you mumbling about?”
Although Lucas spoke quietly, I wasn’t deaf, and I clearly heard him.
“No, I mean the porridge Miranda made is getting tastier and tastier.”
Lucas grinned, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
After breakfast, I spent a little time playing with Lucky before heading out.
I had thought a lot the previous night. I even considered giving up my career for Herbert, but that would mean losing myself. His attitude was so harsh that I couldn’t just give up. What’s more, Joey had already quit her job for me, and Amy was also ready to start the business with me. I couldn’t break my promise.

“What did you say?”
