Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 723

Chapter 724:

She crossed her arms over her chest. Seeing that Jeremy couldn’t take advantage of her, he quickly gathered his things and left. But just as he reached the door, he couldn’t help but curse under his breath.

“I hope this company goes bankrupt in the future!”

Once Jeremy was gone, everyone seemed relieved. Linda motioned for everyone to get back to work and then walked into my office. As soon as the door closed behind her, she smiled.

“I forgot to tell you,” she began, “Selina was sentenced to one year in prison. Jeremy, however, was acquitted, but his reputation is completely ruined. I didn’t expect him to still have the audacity to ask for severance pay.”

“A man like him wouldn’t have had a chance if he hadn’t taken advantage of us,” I replied.

I nodded in agreement, but the news of Selina’s one-year sentence still shocked me. I had originally thought she would only be fined or maybe serve a few months in prison. I never expected the sentence to be so severe.

Linda suddenly crossed her arms in front of her chest and spoke with a hint of regret, “You know, Jessica was pretty and intelligent. It’s just that she’s dishonest. Otherwise, she could have had a bright future.”

“No matter how capable someone is, if their character is flawed, they won’t end up well,” I sighed.

“Anyway, let’s not talk about her. It’s just going to bring my mood down. I’m very busy, so I’ll leave you to it.”

After Linda finished speaking, she turned and left my office.

It was soon noon.

My stomach rumbled loudly. I hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast, and after the intense exercise last night, I was starving.

What should I eat?

Just as I was pondering my lunch options, the phone on my desk suddenly rang. I picked it up and saw that it was Herbert calling. A smile tugged at my lips. I decided to let the phone ring a few more times before picking it up.

“Hello?”

“Are you very busy?”

Herbert’s deep, distinctive voice came through on the other end of the line. I raised an eyebrow and replied, “A little.”

I had been late by half an hour this morning, and then Jeremy came to cause trouble. I barely got anything done.

“Let’s have lunch together at noon,” Herbert suggested.

Before I could respond, he added, “I’ll wait for you downstairs in five minutes.”

I had intended to ask what we should eat, but before I could, Herbert hung up.

I set my phone down and pouted. He asked me out for lunch and said just a few words. His tone was so stiff—completely different from the passionate man I had seen the night before.

I couldn’t help but murmur to myself, “Stupid man, you’ll do anything to get into my bed, but after that, you’re a whole different person. It seems I can’t let you succeed so easily next time.”
