Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 712

Chapter 713:

“There’s nothing you can do about it. You’ll just have to follow me, a lunatic, for the rest of your life.” Herbert smirked, running his tongue over his lips and then touching them with his fingers. But things had already reached this point, and my mother and I couldn’t do anything about it.

“Mom, their lives are their own. If you’re really worried, you could visit Betty and Anne sometime.”

“That’s all I can do,” my mother sighed.

After dinner, my mother and I sat together at the table. That night, it felt like we had returned to the days when we would chat casually, as we had many years ago.

It wasn’t until almost ten o’clock in the evening that I left, urged by my mother.

Fortunately, I caught the last bus. As I got off the bus, I felt in a surprisingly good mood.

The moon hung high in the sky, and the early autumn wind had a slight chill. I walked into the apartment building and was about to take the key from my bag when, unexpectedly, my arm was grabbed from behind.

Startled, I froze, my body going limp. My first instinct was that it was a robber, someone trying to take my money or worse.

“Where have you been? Why did you come back so late? Do you know I’ve been looking for you?”

I turned to see an anxious face.

In the dim light, his dark eyes were filled with concern and reproach. His expression was stern, but in that moment, he looked almost cute.

“I went to my mother’s house,” I replied innocently.

“I called you a hundred and eight times, but you didn’t answer!” Herbert complained, holding his mobile phone in his hand.

I quickly pulled out my phone from my bag. Looking at the screen, I frowned, my expression one of an innocent little rabbit caught in the act.

“My phone died!” I explained.

At my mother’s house, I had been focused on cooking, eating, and chatting with her. I hadn’t checked my phone at all. I hadn’t noticed when the battery ran out. But seeing how nervous Herbert was, I realized my phone had probably died right when I left work, as I remembered it showing a low battery when I called Gary earlier.

“You’re an adult. How could you let your phone run out of battery? Don’t you know how to charge it when it’s low? What if you can’t be found in an emergency? Or how would you contact anyone if something happened?” Herbert scolded.

I knew he was right, but his tone was too strict, and it made me feel irritated.

“Herbert, who do you think you are? You shouted at me in front of my house. And do I really have an obligation to answer your calls? You’re neither my relative nor my boss, so why do you feel entitled to criticize me?”

With that, I pushed him away and tried to unlock the door.

Suddenly, Herbert grabbed my shoulder and pushed me against the wall. Lowering his head, he spoke in an overbearing tone, “Let me make this clear—you’re my woman, and you will do as I say. Do you understand?”

This man was infuriating. I was so angry that I wanted to push him away, but his strength made me feel completely powerless.
