Chapter 712:
“Where did you go? Why are you back so late? Do you know I’ve been looking for you?” a voice asked urgently.
Turning around, I saw an anxious face staring at me. Under the dim light, his dark eyes were full of concern and reproach. His expression was upset, but at that moment, he seemed oddly endearing.
“I went to my mother’s house,” I replied innocently.
“I called you a hundred and eight times, but you didn’t answer!” Herbert complained, holding his phone in his hand.
I quickly pulled my phone from my bag, glanced at the screen, and couldn’t help but frown. My expression must have looked like that of an innocent little white rabbit.
“My phone ran out of battery!” I explained.
At my mother’s house, I had been focused entirely on cooking, eating, and chatting with her, without once checking my phone. I had no idea when the battery had drained. But seeing how nervous Herbert was, I realized my phone must have died after work, since I remembered it showing a low battery when I called Gary earlier.
“You’re an adult. How can you let your phone run out of battery? Don’t you know how to charge it when the battery’s low? What if you couldn’t be reached in an emergency? How would you contact anyone in a crisis?” Herbert scolded.
I knew he was right, but his stern attitude frustrated me.
“Herbert, who are you to me? You shouted at me in front of my house. Am I obligated to answer your calls? You’re neither my relative nor my boss, so why should I let you criticize me?” I shot back.
I pushed him aside and reached for my keys to open the door.
But just then, Herbert grabbed my shoulder, pushing me against the wall. He lowered his head, his voice cold and commanding.
“Let me tell you something, you are my woman. You must obey everything I say, understand?”
This man was unbearably overbearing. I was furious and wanted to push him away, but against his strength, I felt utterly powerless.
“Who’s your woman? You—” Before I could finish my words, he kissed me forcefully, sealing my mouth. I couldn’t get a single word out.
My struggle only led to him kissing me more passionately. He held me so tightly in his arms that I couldn’t object. In desperation, I bit down on his tongue. A taste of blood filled my mouth, but he didn’t stop. I had no choice but to release him.
Fear crept over me as I looked at his face—his eyes burned with intensity, like that of a predator about to strike. It was as if he wanted to consume me, and I felt helpless under his gaze.
The kiss lasted for a few long minutes. Finally, he released me, a smile spreading across his face.
I touched my lips, noticing the bloodstains there. Frowning, I asked, “Don’t you feel pain?”
“Your kiss has healed the pain!” Herbert chuckled, as if amused by my confusion.
“You’re a lunatic,” I cursed him.
