Chapter 696:
Suddenly, a strong arm wrapped around me, and my heart skipped a beat!
The arm was firm and familiar. I was overjoyed and turned, expecting to see Herbert, but the smile froze on my face.
It wasn’t Herbert holding me, but Herbert’s assistant, Connor. I couldn’t hide my disappointment.
“Miss Stepanek, you’ve had too much to drink,” Connor said with concern.
“I’m fine, thank you,” I replied, trying to regain my composure.
I followed my colleagues into the elevator, while Connor left with Herbert. My colleagues began to chat.
“Connor is the special assistant to Mr. Wharton, the president of the Wharton Group. I hear he holds a lot of power in the company.”
“Right. Although his position is only that of the president’s special assistant, his influence is greater than that of the vice president.”
“Bella, what’s the relationship between you and Connor?”
“Nothing special,” I replied flatly.
The elevator reached the first floor, and I walked straight out.
Just then, I saw Herbert holding Linda’s shoulder. Linda looked a little drunk, and Herbert was guiding her protectively. The general manager laughed.
“Mr. Wharton, are you going to my friend’s newly opened bar?”
“No. Linda drank too much. I’ll take her home.”
Herbert’s expression remained cold.
“Alright, I’ll see you again. I hope we can have a good time working together in the next few days.”
At that moment, Herbert said, “As long as Linda is with Stephen Firm, I will naturally take care of Stephen Firm. Do you understand what I mean?”
Upon hearing this, the general manager immediately nodded and said, “Understood, understood. I will definitely put her in an important position in the future!”
These words seemed to satisfy Herbert. He looked up in my direction, and I immediately stood up straight, thinking he was looking at me. But instead, the next moment, Connor quickly approached Herbert. He whispered something to him, and then Herbert walked out of the hotel lobby with Linda in his arms, surrounded by the crowd.
For a moment, I was left there, alone.
Looking at the back of Herbert as he walked away with Linda in his arms, I suddenly felt so lonely.
Bella’s POV:
At this moment, Connor walked in front of me.
“Miss Stepanek, shall I send you home?”
“No, I can go home by myself!”
With that, I grabbed my bag and strode forward.
When Connor saw this, he hurriedly followed.
