Chapter 680:
I shouted back, “You like too many people, don’t you? Now it’s Linda, and I’m just your past lover!”
“I got close to Linda for you, to help you with your problem. But you scolded me,” Herbert’s voice came from outside, quieter than usual. It didn’t sound like the typical Herbert at all.
For me? Did I force him to go out with Linda?
Frustrated, I felt my patience running thin. I figured he was just drunk and rambling nonsense.
I stopped responding and switched off the light.
Once the lights were out, there was silence from the other side of the door.
At that moment, Lucky, who had been sleeping on the small bed, must have heard our argument. She stirred and shifted a few times.
I quickly went over to her and gently patted her little arm in the moonlight, soothing her back to sleep.
But even after that, I couldn’t fall asleep. I kept touching my swollen lips, the memory of Herbert’s forceful kiss lingering in my mind…
Bella’s POV:
I didn’t fall asleep until the early hours of the morning. That night, my dreams were filled with images of a man pressing down on me, kissing my cheeks, lips, collarbones, and traveling lower…

I woke up early, my cheeks flushed as I remembered the dream.
“What’s wrong with me?” I thought.
“Is it because I haven’t been with a man for so long?”
I couldn’t help but scold myself. I had always believed that after having children, a woman could still lead a normal life without a man. Even if there were desires, I thought I could handle them on my own.
But Herbert shattered that illusion last night. His kiss had broken through the calm I had carefully maintained, stirring feelings and desires I had been holding back.
To calm myself, I quickly got out of bed and took a cold shower.
A little while later, Lucky woke up. After washing up, with her in my arms, I went downstairs. By that time, Miranda had already prepared breakfast, and Lucas was sitting at the dining table, ready to eat. He’d go to kindergarten after finishing his meal.
Just as Lucas was about to leave, the doorbell rang. Miranda went to answer it.
I handed Lucky to Gary, then took Lucas’s hand. As soon as we walked into the living room, I saw Miranda leading several young women in uniforms into the room. Each one was carrying multiple bags.
I was a bit stunned. I had no idea why they were here or what they were doing.
“Mommy, look! These women have beautiful clothes, shoes, bags, and even cosmetics!” Lucas exclaimed excitedly. He pulled away from my hand and ran up to the young women, circling them and peeking into each bag they held.
Just as I was about to ask, Miranda smiled and explained, “Miss Stepanek, these are all gifts Mr. Wharton ordered for you. The mall sent them over. He asked you to try them on. If you don’t like anything, you can have it exchanged.”
I frowned at this. Yesterday, Miranda had mentioned that someone from the mall would bring over some pajamas, but I hadn’t expected anything this extravagant. I looked at the bags the attendants were carrying, noticing there were six women in total.
