Chapter 669:
“What is he going to do?” I immediately had a bad feeling. Did he want to stop me from going home under the guise of helping me?
The next moment, I heard Herbert’s voice.
“Who are those people?”
I looked up and saw Herbert staring at Connor, who was in front of me. It turned out that he was talking to him.
After staring out of the car window for a long moment, Connor turned back to Herbert.
“Most likely, these people were hired by QT Company to take revenge on Miss Stepanek. It’s best if you don’t go home for now. These people’s methods are rather vile. They might harm you.”
Hearing this, I felt a sense of numbness.
Herbert let go of my wrist and immediately touched it. It was a little painful; he had been too forceful just now.
“I’m sorry. I was anxious,” Herbert said, wanting to explain.
“I’m fine,” I quickly replied. After all, he was just trying to protect me. If I had gotten out of the car, I didn’t know what might have happened.
He then asked, his tone tentative, “You can’t go home for the time being. Do you want me to get you a room in a hotel, or would you prefer to stay at my place?”
“I’ll get a hostel myself. Are you kidding? I can’t afford to stay in a hotel. It costs hundreds of dollars a night, and I don’t know how many days I’ll be away from home.”
At that point, Connor slowly started the car.
“You don’t have to worry about the cost,” Herbert said.
“I’m very grateful for your help in dealing with the commercial crime. You don’t need to pay for anything.”
Before Herbert could say anything else, Connor, who was driving, spoke up.
Bella’s POV:
“Miss Stepanek, I know I shouldn’t be interrupting, but those people from QT Company aren’t easy to deal with. They might track you down using your identity card when you book a room. I suggest you go to Mr. Wharton’s house instead. That way, you can also take care of Lucas and Lucky. If you go outside, the safety of the children could be at risk.”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but consider it in my mind.
What Connor said made sense. If I stayed in a hotel, I wouldn’t be able to take care of Lucas and Lucky. Those people from the underworld would do anything to get what they wanted.
I couldn’t risk the children’s safety, and if I was away from them for days, I would miss them terribly.
But did this mean I had to live with Herbert?
At that moment, Herbert spoke.
“If you don’t want to see me, I can move out first and leave the house to you and the children!”
