Chapter 667:
A few minutes later, I finally calmed down.
“Have you cried enough?” Herbert asked gently.
“Yes.”
I took the tissue from his hand, wiped my nose, and nodded.
At that moment, Herbert lowered his head to look at the wet spot on his shirt and smiled.
“Today, my shirt made a great contribution.”
I glanced at the damp area on his chest—tears, snot, and wrinkles, all caused by me. But I wasn’t going to show any weakness. I wiped my tears and said, “Take it off, and I’ll wash it for you. Anyway, your shirt is a designer brand that I can’t afford!”
Herbert cleared his throat and lowered his head before saying seriously, “Hurry up and tell me all the details about the QT Company budget case. You need to take this matter seriously now, because if you’re convicted of commercial crimes, you’re likely to go to jail. Do you understand?”
His words hit me hard. I understood that my situation was extremely dangerous.
I needed Herbert’s help. I didn’t want to end up in jail.
I began telling him everything—the details of how Selina had handed the case over to Jeremy and me, what had happened in the middle of the process, the sudden appendicitis Jeremy had developed, and everything else. I was a mess, but I had to explain all of it to him, not knowing if any of it would be useful.
After listening carefully, Herbert lowered his head and thought for a moment before looking up.
“It seems you fell into the trap Selina set for you. This has something to do with Jeremy too.”
“I don’t understand why Selina and Jeremy did this. How many people did they have to involve to frame me like this?”
Herbert simply sneered at that.
“Do you think they didn’t get any benefits from this?”
At his words, I frowned and stared at him, confused. I didn’t understand what he meant.
Then, Herbert said, “Although I don’t have any direct evidence, I can deduce that the people who revealed the budget plan of QT Company to their competitors were likely Selina and Jeremy.”
I opened my mouth wide in shock.
“You mean they leaked the document, took the money, and then made me take the fall?”
“Right.”
Herbert nodded. In the past, I had assumed that Selina and Jeremy schemed against me simply out of revenge. But now, I realized they had not only taken money from QT Company’s competitors but also pushed me forward to shoulder the responsibility.
They were much more malicious than I had imagined.
