Chapter 638:
I didn’t want to argue with her in front of my mother and Anne, so I calmly said, “Both your marriage and divorce have nothing to do with me. You’re overthinking it!”
With that, I turned and walked toward the door. Though I warned myself not to be angry, as Betty was already out of control, it was impossible not to feel the flames of frustration burning inside me.
“I know you can’t bear to see me living a good life, but I’ll live a better life than you, just to piss you off! Haha!”
Betty’s laugh was maddening as it echoed behind me.
“Betty, you can’t talk to your sister like that. You’re being very rude!” my mother scolded her.
“Is she really my sister? Do I have such an older sister? She even encouraged Hank to deceive me!”
“Mom, I don’t want such an older sister. I don’t want it! The man my husband loves is my sister! What am I supposed to do?”
Then Betty’s shrill cry filled the room. Her hatred for me had reached a boiling point.
The relationship between us had become so bad that it seemed better to never see each other again.
After walking out of the ward, I stood in the corridor, staring up at the white ceiling, trying desperately to hold back my tears. Soon, Hank completed the discharge process and took Betty and Anne away.
Just as I was about to leave, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and saw my mom.
“Betty was agitated just now. Don’t take it too personally,” she said, her voice still a bit shaky.
“I know.”
I lowered my head, unable to meet her eyes. Then my mother said, “There’s nothing wrong with my body. Can you take me home?”
“Okay.”
I nodded and led my mom out of the hospital. At that moment, Ryan came up behind us, smiling.
“Dear, wasn’t my idea great? Hank withdrew the divorce agreement. He won’t divorce Betty, and now he’s taken Betty and Anne home!”
“I knew it was you who encouraged this. Betty has always been timid. She wouldn’t have thought of jumping into the river on her own!”
I scolded him sharply.
“I did this for her own good. She would rather die than get a divorce from Hank. I’m her father. Of course, I should give her some advice!” Ryan didn’t think he was wrong.
“Have you ever thought about the consequences if something really happened? Anne is so young. What if something happens to her? If anything were to happen to Betty, we would lose two lives! What do you want my mom to do? Have you ever considered how depressed she would be?” I continued to question him.
“Nothing happens, right?” Ryan muttered.
