Chapter 610:
I felt his hand pull away from my waist.
“Then we can’t just stay here and wait?” I asked, frowning. After a moment of hesitation, Herbert answered, “Our best choice is to wait here for the power to come back. The banquet hall is chaotic now. With so many people, someone might get hurt, especially with all the tables and flowers scattered around.”
“Can we take the elevator downstairs?”
I wanted to leave immediately.
“There’s no electricity, so the elevator can’t function,” Herbert replied.
Hearing this, I slapped my forehead.
“My brain is really not working. I didn’t even think of such a simple logical problem.”
“Then let’s go to the emergency stairs,” I suggested.
“Miss, this is the 30th floor, and you’re wearing high heels. If you go down, I’ll have to send you to the hospital to check on your sprained foot.”
Herbert’s tone lightened. I suddenly thought of Joey and started to worry about her. I had no idea what was going on in the banquet hall now. I just hoped the situation wasn’t too bad. I crossed my arms, feeling like it had been a while. Herbert was standing right beside me.
He didn’t say anything to me. People were pushing around, and Herbert stood beside me, creating a safe space. He positioned his body to shield me from the crowd.
My heart couldn’t help but race…
Herbert’s POV:
I looked at Bella beside me. In fact, I enjoyed this moment very much. Bella was always like a hedgehog when she faced me. As soon as I approached, she would bristle with her thorns. But now, with the darkness around us, she was quietly by my side.
However, it didn’t last long.
A few minutes later, the building, which had been dark, suddenly lit up again. What a pity. I thought I could have her by my side a little longer. Bella smiled with excitement.
“The electricity’s back. You can go now!”
Yes, the electricity came back, and that meant she was about to leave. I felt a little disappointed. Bella turned around, eager to leave. But the next second, the building fell into darkness once again. Bella seemed startled. I quickly walked over to her and held her.
Bella asked, “Ah, what’s going on?”
“Be careful!” I said, positioning myself beside her to protect her.
At that moment, a strange sound came from somewhere. It almost sounded like the cry of birds or animals. The noise was eerie and unsettling.
“What’s that sound?”
Bella’s hands grabbed onto my arms, and I could feel the fear in her.
