Chapter 603:
“On top of that, he’s unhappy. His family business was founded by his mother, and of course, he wouldn’t want to just hand it over to someone else. So, he’s stuck playing along with the old man and Emma.”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but laugh. I thought to myself, “Connie is really something. She married into a rich and powerful family at such an old age and even managed to arrange her daughter’s marriage. Ryan was just a stepping stone for her all these years.”
My mother was the truly pathetic one. It had been nearly 20 years, and she was the only one who had raised my sister and me.
“Bella, do you need my help?” Klein asked, noticing the frown on my face.
“No!” I immediately shook my head in refusal and then added, “I’ll solve my own problems from now on. You don’t have to intervene.”
“Oh,” Klein replied, silent for a moment before nodding in agreement.
Feeling that we had nothing more to discuss, I forced a smile and said, “Didn’t you mention that your friends are over there? Go ahead.”
Klein hesitated for a moment before nodding.
“Then I’ll go over now.”
With that, he turned and walked away. Watching his lonely figure disappear, I felt a pang of sadness. Just then, I suddenly felt a chill run down my spine, as if someone was approaching me from behind. I quickly turned around and saw a tall figure in a black suit with a cold expression. It was Herbert.
I frowned as he walked toward me. Before I could say anything, Herbert spoke first.
“What did he say to you?”
Herbert’s question made me uncomfortable, as if I had been caught doing something wrong. Feeling defensive, I straightened my back, lifted my chin, and replied, “I don’t think I need to answer your question, do I?”
Herbert reached out and grabbed my arm, his tone laced with frustration.
“Haven’t you broken up with him? Why are you still in touch with him?”
Bella’s POV:
Herbert’s words and attitude disgusted me. I pushed his hand away and said, “Herbert, you are just the father of my children. I really have nothing to do with you. So you have no right to interfere in my personal life!”
