Jeremy, holding his cheek, looked humiliated and furious. He pointed a shaking finger at me and sneered, “Bitch!”
Then, without another word, he turned and stormed out.

Later that night, after putting Lucky to bed, I called Joey and told her what had happened.
Naturally, Joey was furious.
“That scumbag! You should have called the police right away! If he has a wife, let her pick him up from the police station.”
I sighed.
“It’s bad enough that I have to deal with a difficult boss. Now I’ve offended a sleazy creep too? I was too flustered to collect any evidence. Without proof, it won’t be easy to take action. I just hope he won’t try something like this again.”
Joey scoffed.
“This is so unlike you. The old Bella would have made sure he paid for what he did!”
I sighed, feeling the weight of my responsibilities.
“I’m not alone anymore. I have a child to raise. I have to think about more than just myself.”
Then, pushing aside my frustration, I pulled out the complicated document Selina had given me earlier today.
“Joey, can you help me understand what’s difficult about this case? I don’t think it’s that complicated, but it’s been changed multiple times, and none of the revisions have met the other party’s requirements,” I said, furrowing my brows.
Joey took the document and examined it for a while. Then she came to a conclusion and said, “On the surface, there’s no real difficulty. I suspect there’s an issue with the budget.”
“What’s the problem?” I asked, confused.
“Accounting in a normal company is completely different from accounting in an accounting firm. Sometimes, the employer asks you to do things like tax evasion but doesn’t want to take responsibility for it, which is why the employer’s always dissatisfied,” Joey explained.
“I’ve seen a lot of similar cases at my company over the past two years. Tomorrow, you should ask about the previous cases and try to get some information from the other party. Also, let me check what this company is called—K.G. Software Company. I’ll ask my boss for you. He’s very experienced and well-respected in the industry. He’ll definitely know about these issues,” Joey added with a smile.
Hearing that, I let out a relieved sigh.
“Fortunately, you’re helping me,” I said gratefully.
Joey smiled and replied, “You’ve got a power station at your disposal but you’re using a small battery instead.”
“What power station?” I asked, confused.
