Chapter 513:
Even if Connor was with me, what difference would it make? He was still following Herbert’s orders. This was just another trick. But I desperately wanted to learn more about Lucas’s background. I needed to know if he was my son.
I had made up my mind. I would prepare myself and go to Herbert’s house.
“Well, tell him I’ll be there on time.”
“Okay.”
After that, he hung up the phone.
It didn’t take long for Jane to arrive. Lucky woke up, too. After breakfast, I went into the kitchen and slipped a knife into my handbag.
Bella’s POV:
After I dressed, I grabbed my bag, slung it over my shoulder, and walked over to Lucky. I kissed her little face and then said, “I have something to do. I need to go out.”
As soon as I stepped outside, I saw Klein walking toward me from the opposite side. He stopped and asked, “Aren’t you going to work tomorrow? Where are you going so early?”
“Oh, I made an appointment with Joey. She’s working tomorrow, so we wanted to meet up today,” I said quickly, avoiding his gaze. I was afraid he might see through me.
I didn’t want Klein to know I was going to meet Herbert. He would undoubtedly be heartbroken and devastated. But, the truth was, I needed to know the truth about Lucas.
“Didn’t we invite her to be our bridesmaid? We should do something nice for her,” Klein said, smiling as he walked into the elevator with me.
“Where are you two meeting? I’ll take you there,” he offered with a laugh.
“We decided to meet at a shopping mall, but it’s in the opposite direction from where you’re going. Go to work. I’ll grab a taxi,” I replied, trying to brush it off.
Klein frowned but then said, “Fine. Today’s the first day back at work, and there’s a regular meeting in the morning.”
We reached the gate of the community, and I watched Klein drive off in his car before calling a cab to leave.
Klein’s POV:
Bella finally agreed to my suggestion. I felt a mix of happiness and unease. I tried to calm myself down, not wanting to overthink things. But this morning, Bella told me she was going to meet Joey at the shopping mall. Yet, when I saw Bella’s taxi drive in the opposite direction, I knew something was off.
Bella was lying to me!
Panic set in as I watched the traffic light turn green. I saw Bella’s taxi turn down another street.
Without hesitation, I followed her.
In the end, I saw Bella’s taxi stop in front of the community where Herbert lived. So, Bella came to see Herbert behind my back? My emotions were complicated. I wanted to rush out and confront Bella, but I didn’t know how to face it.
