Chapter 496:
“Bella, please. Just listen to me.”
His voice was almost pleading.
“Let me go!”
I shot him a cold glare, my entire body rigid with defiance.
“Can’t you just hear me out?”
Herbert refused to release me.
Frantically, I reached into my bag, pulling out my phone. My hands trembled as I unlocked it, ready to dial for help.
But before I could press the call button, Herbert’s hand shot out—fast, decisive.
He snatched the phone right out of my grasp.
Holding my phone in one hand, Herbert grabbed my shoulder with his other hand and angrily demanded, “Are you going to call Klein? Do you think I’ll be afraid of him? You will always be mine.”
Then, he threw my phone hard onto the floor.
The next moment, the phone hit the hard floor and shattered into pieces.
“Herbert, are you out of your mind?”
I was distressed and furious seeing my phone destroyed again. This wasn’t the first time. Every time I saw him, he would destroy something important to me.
“How long have you and Klein been together? Are you already living together? Has something happened between you two?” Herbert pressed, his hands now pushing me harder against the wall.
Facing Herbert’s madness, the resentment I had been holding onto burst out. I chose to confront him head-on. Even if I was no match for him and risked getting hurt like my phone, I wasn’t going to tolerate him anymore. And then, I laughed coldly.
“Herbert, how old are you? Why are you asking these ridiculous questions? Whatever has happened between me and Klein has nothing to do with you.”
“You’re asking for trouble!”
Herbert slammed his fist into the wall beside my ear. The impact made a loud groaning sound, and my heart raced with panic. But I couldn’t show fear. I wouldn’t back down. I continued, “Since being with Klein, I’ve realized how happy I am with him. In terms of personality, health, and compatibility, we’re a much better match. He gives me happiness in ways that you never could.”
I emphasized the last sentence to provoke him. It was clear that Herbert still cared about me, and my words seemed to deeply affect him. A part of me took some satisfaction in that.
Herbert stared at me, pain in his eyes. After a long silence, he gritted his teeth and said, “Listen to me, woman. I can give you the same happiness that Klein gives you, and I’ll make you even happier!”
He then leaned down and sealed my mouth with his.
I gasped in shock.
