Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 492

Chapter 493:

With Klein, I felt warmth and stability.

I knew my life now was happy—the kind of happiness I should embrace.

But no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t completely forget what it felt like to be with Herbert.

But now, I hated Herbert. No matter what kind of feelings he had given me, I couldn’t turn back. The person who would accompany me for the rest of my life was still the one sitting in front of me, Klein.

Soon, the car stopped in front of the building where I worked. Before I got out, Klein said, “I expect I’ll be back late tonight. It’s rare for my colleagues to have a gathering.”

“Don’t worry about me. Have fun,” I replied with a smile and got out of the car.

As soon as I stepped out, a strange feeling washed over me. It was as if someone were watching me from the shadows, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end.

I looked around, but saw nothing unusual. Was it just my imagination?

Bella’s POV:

At four o’clock in the afternoon, I grabbed my bag and walked out of the building behind me. Tomorrow was Christmas, and my kind boss had allowed us to leave early for the holiday. I hadn’t left work until I finished cleaning up the finance office, making me the last one to leave the company. The sky was particularly gloomy today, almost as if it were going to snow. This would be my first Christmas celebrating with Klein. I was leaving for Christmas dinner tonight, and I had to prepare for tomorrow’s Christmas feast.

As I reached the first floor, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my stomach and decided to head to the bathroom. As I walked, it felt like someone was following me. A wave of unease washed over me, so I quickened my pace. I suddenly turned around to look behind me, but there were only one or two people walking in the distance. No one was following me. I touched my chest and shook my head, thinking that maybe I was just being overly sensitive.

I continued on, and when I reached the bathroom, the first floor was empty. But as I came out of the bathroom, a figure in black suddenly appeared in front of me and blocked my way. The man was wearing a black fur coat. His face was thin, and his eyes were deep. I froze in fear. It had been more than half a year since I last saw him.

The last time, when I was forced to have a C-section, he had not shown up. In the past six months, he hadn’t been around either. Just when I thought he might have forgotten me, he appeared again.

I looked away and said coldly, “What do you want?”

“I have something to talk to you about,” Herbert’s voice was as low and pleasant as I remembered.

“I have nothing to talk to you about!” I said, trying to walk past him. If it were up to me, I never wanted to see him again, let alone sit down and talk. Although I sometimes thought of him, I only hated him now.

Herbert reached out and grabbed my arm, his tone overbearing, “I have something important to tell you. You have to listen!”

I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
