Chapter 489:
After two knocks on the door, the sound of my mother approaching came from inside.
“I’m coming, I’m coming!”
When my mother opened the door, Klein was the first to greet her in a sweet voice, “Mom!”
“Klein, you’re here.”
Mother was very happy.
“Mom, Klein said he wanted to give you some gifts for Christmas.”
I laughed from behind.
“Thank you, Klein. Hurry up and come in!”
Mother turned to open the door, and then Klein and I walked in, one after the other.
“Mom, Klein bought you a fur coat and a gold necklace. Try them on and see if you like them.”
I carried the bag and walked toward the living room. I looked up and was surprised to see two people sitting in the living room.
Bella’s POV:
Hank and Betty were also at my mother’s house. I hadn’t seen Betty in over half a year. In fact, I missed her more than I expected. I wondered if, as time went by, Betty would hate me less. Even though she had hurt me in such a cruel way, she was still my sister. My childhood memories often resurfaced, and in those memories, she was still an innocent and lovely little girl. But all that joy dissipated the moment we met again. She still looked at me with disgust.
At this moment, mother walked over and smiled at Hank.
“Hank, this is Bella’s boyfriend, Klein.”
Then, she turned to Klein and said, “Klein, this is Betty’s husband, Hank.”
Hank gave Klein a quick glance, his expression a bit dull.
“Hello, Hank,” Klein greeted.
“Hello, Klein,” Hank replied, his voice trembling slightly. I hoped it was just my imagination. I looked at the gift boxes on the floor and thought, It seems they are here to give mom gifts today.
We hadn’t expected to meet so coincidentally. The silence between us grew, and the atmosphere became awkward. At this point, mother said, “Betty, Bella, come to my room. Come and have a look at my new clothes.”
After entering the room, mother changed into a light green bronze shirt. It looked very elegant, with a great style and exquisite workmanship. At first glance, it appeared to be from a famous brand.
“What do you think?”
Mother asked, looking into the mirror.
“It looks good,” I replied.
Mom smiled and said, “It was Betty and Hank who bought it for me.”
Then, mother put on the skirt I brought and looked at herself in the mirror. She smiled and said, “This coat must be very expensive, right? I’ve only seen people wear it, but I never dared to try it on when I went to the mall.”
“Mother, Klein prepared it for you,” I said.
