Chapter 466:
I closed my eyes and replied, “No. That’s my fault. The doctor said that although Lucas’s condition has stabilized, it will take him about a month to fully recover. As long as all the indicators are normal this time, he’ll recover. I want to bring her a healthy Lucas so she won’t have any concerns about his health. Since I’ve waited this long, why rush now?”
I owe Bella too much, and I’ve hurt her deeply. Then, Connor asked, “Right now, Miss Stepanek and Klein… they’re often meeting. Aren’t you worried?”
I was silent for a moment before responding, “Bella will never fall in love with another man.”
“Are you this confident?” Connor asked.
“Of course.”
In truth, I wasn’t entirely confident. But whenever I thought about the possibility of Klein being with Bella, or even marrying her, I felt a deep discomfort. This was the only way I could deceive myself.
Bella’s POV:
That night, after work, Klein came directly to my side. This was the usual routine. As long as he didn’t have any social commitments, he would usually have dinner here. He and Jane were both here, so he wouldn’t have to cook alone. I sat on the sofa, massaging my ankle.
“What’s wrong?” Klein put down his briefcase and walked over with a concerned expression on his face.
“I fell down accidentally.” I raised my head and forced a smile. The fall today wasn’t light, and I couldn’t get up for a while. Fortunately, the people around me were kind enough to help me up and pick up my things.
“How did this happen? Let me see if you’ve sprained your ankle.”
After speaking, Klein reached out to touch my ankle, checking to see if my joints were injured.
“I didn’t sprain my ankle.” I quickly shook my head, denying it, but his large hand was already on my ankle. His hands were warm, which made me feel a little embarrassed. It was a strange feeling, and I couldn’t pull my foot away.
“Your feet are beautiful. They’re very cute.”
Klein pressed down on my foot, and I asked, “I didn’t sprain my ankle, did I?”
“No.” Klein quickly came to his senses, releasing my leg and grabbing the medicine in his hand.
“Let me apply it for you.”
“Thank you.” I didn’t refuse and thanked him. Klein was very thorough; whenever there was a wound on my calf, he would apply medicine to it carefully. The atmosphere in the living room suddenly became a little awkward. When I saw that he had finished applying the medicine, I quickly pulled my leg back and adjusted my pants.
Klein cleared his throat slightly. Putting down the medicine, he looked at Jane, who was preparing dinner in the kitchen.
“… Where’s Lucky?”
