Chapter 442:
Betty immediately turned around to greet her.
“Hey, Betty is here too?” my mother said with a smile.
“Mom, I just arrived. My sister told me you went shopping,” Betty replied with a smile.
“Let’s have lunch together. I bought a lot of food,” my mother said, still smiling.
I was shocked to see Betty and my mother talking and laughing. Was this still the same fierce Betty from before? Now, her face was full of smiles. She was speaking kindly to Mother, with no trace of the hostility I had expected.
Meanwhile, Lucky was still crying. I quickly picked her up and sat back on the sofa. Then I unbuttoned my shirt and began to feed her. She seemed to feel a little better.
When my mother heard Lucky crying, she quickly rushed over and asked, “Why is Lucky crying so much today?”
“She…” I started to answer.
But Betty stepped forward and said, “Mom, it’s all my fault. I spoke a little louder just now. I think I scared her.”
“Lucky’s only two months old. Can’t you keep your voice down? You’re a mother too, and yet you’re still so reckless,” my mother scolded Betty.
“Mom, I got it.”

After that, Betty stepped forward and said with a smile, “Sister, my baby is almost a year old. Hank is worried that I might get tired, so he hired a nanny for me. I’ll come and help take care of Lucky when I’m free, okay?”
I stared at Betty with a particular expression. It was undeniable that she was being hypocritical.
How had the sweet Betty become the manipulative person I now despised?
I could hardly believe that she had changed so much in just one or two years.
“There’s no need. I can take care of Lucky myself,” I responded coldly.
Perhaps Mother noticed my icy response toward Betty because she quickly interjected, “Bella, your sister is just trying to help. It’s a kind gesture.”
“Mom, I’m an adult, and I can make my own decisions. Lucky is sleepy. I’ll put her down for a nap,” I said, trying to end the conversation.
I left the room with Lucky in my arms, closing the door behind me. I didn’t care what Betty would say to Mother. I had no desire to engage with her anymore.
I didn’t care about her—she could do whatever she wanted.
I fell asleep with Lucky in my arms. When I woke up, she was still sleeping soundly.
I slipped on my shoes and pushed open the bedroom door. It was quiet outside.
It looked like Betty had already left. That was for the best. I really didn’t want to see her again. This was the first time I’d ever hated someone so close to me.
Just then, Mother emerged from her bedroom.
When she saw me, she said, “You were asleep, so I didn’t wake you for lunch. I left some food in the pot for you. Go eat before Lucky wakes up.”
“Yes,” I nodded in response.
