Chapter 421:
“Your grandmother has a great eye for places. I had no idea A City had such breathtaking scenery. The river just outside is crystal clear,” I said sincerely.
“Of course. Do you have any idea how many developers have tried to build high-end communities here? My grandmother bought all the nearby mountains just to keep them away. She didn’t want anyone ruining this place’s natural beauty,” Klein suddenly revealed.
I was stunned. Ms. Leina lived so simply that she never seemed like someone who would spend a fortune on land. Yet, she must have paid an enormous amount to buy all those mountains.
“Actually, I have some news for you,” Klein added, suddenly sitting up in his rocking chair with a mischievous smile on his face.”You’ve really become much calmer,” Klein said, giving me a thumbs-up.
“It’s because the environment here is peaceful, and your grandmother is such a kind person. It’s easy to feel at ease here,” I replied with a smile.
“That may be true, but I still have to tell you about Emma’s latest disaster.”
Klein leaned back in his rocking chair before continuing.
“Emma went to great lengths to get close to William. Naturally, she wasn’t going to let him go so easily. She started chasing after him relentlessly, using every trick in the book—crying, begging, kneeling, threatening to hang herself, even cutting her wrist. She put William through absolute hell.”
“I don’t doubt it,” I said, nodding.
People like Emma were capable of anything. It was said that Connie had once used Ryan in a similar way. Otherwise, her mother wouldn’t have stood a chance.
“Eventually, William couldn’t take it anymore. He had no choice but to escape to America just to get away from her. But when Emma couldn’t find him, she turned her attention to his mother. Unfortunately for her, William’s mother is a powerful woman. After a few attempts, Emma realized she had no chance and didn’t dare to go near her again. So, in the end, she gave up.”
Klein spread his hands dramatically.
Hearing that, I covered my mouth to stifle a laugh.
“But William can’t hide in America forever, can he?”
“Eventually, people will move on and forget about the whole thing,” Klein said with a shrug.
That night, Klein didn’t leave—he stayed in one of the guest rooms.
Ms. Leina’s house was large, with plenty of rooms to accommodate guests.
His presence made the little courtyard feel livelier. That evening, he prepared a barbecue. Grandma was in high spirits, eating heartily, and so did I. It was a joyful night.
As autumn gradually faded into winter, time passed quickly. Christmas was approaching.
Looking at the festive decorations around the house, I couldn’t help but think of home.
My mother had called me several times, urging me to come back.
