Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 386

Chapter 387:

Life wouldn’t have been so difficult. Unfortunately, I couldn’t start over, and regret wouldn’t change anything. The relationship between Herbert and me was complicated and awkward. And now, my sister and I were about to become enemies.

Love, career, and family were all becoming disasters.

Ring… Ring…

While I was lost in thought, my phone suddenly rang. I took it out and saw that it was Klein calling. Just seeing his name brought me a sense of relief. Right now, I needed someone who could lift my spirits.

I felt like I was about to collapse.

“Hello, Klein,” I answered.

I answered the phone.

“Bella, I heard from Ella that you resigned. What’s going on? Why did you suddenly resign? And where are you now? I can’t find you!” Klein asked, his voice frantic.

“My sister gave birth to a baby, and there was no one to take care of her at home, so I came back to help her,” I explained.

I didn’t mention Herbert. That was something too painful to talk about, something I wanted to let fade away with time. Klein was silent for a moment before he asked, “Are you saying you won’t be going back to Wharton in the future?”

I didn’t know how to answer that, as I wasn’t sure what I was doing either.

“I don’t have any plans yet,” I replied. Klein chuckled.

“You can take your time thinking about it. Don’t rush. I’ll treat you to a meal soon. And you can’t refuse me! I want you to see if the clothes you bought for me fit well!”

“Okay,” I promised, remembering that I had already sent him the clothes last time.

“That’s settled then. Goodbye!” Klein said, his voice light and cheerful.

“Goodbye,” I echoed, before hanging up. I sat on the row of chairs for a while, allowing myself to calm down before dragging my suitcase back home. I didn’t want my mom to know about the argument with Betty; I didn’t want to worry her.

In the afternoon, I forced myself to act as if everything was fine. It wasn’t until night fell that I returned to my room and allowed myself to fully relax. I locked the door and leaned against it, my thoughts a tangled mess. I had to keep going, no matter how hard things were.

The next day, I forced myself to pick up the pieces. I told myself that nothing could defeat me.

“Bella, come and have breakfast!” my mother called from the dining table.

“Here I come,” I responded, walking out of my bedroom.

Sitting at the table, I couldn’t help but be surprised by the lavish breakfast before me.

“Mom, what’s the occasion today?” I asked, wide-eyed.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had breakfast together. I wanted to make something special for you,” my mother said as she placed a sandwich in front of me.

“Mom, you’re so kind,” I said, touched by her thoughtfulness.
