Chapter 365:
“It’s getting late. You should head back now.”
There was a special look in Klein’s eyes. It made me uncomfortable, as it always did. I quickly opened the door and said, “Goodbye!”
Klein drove off. As I turned to head into the building, I suddenly noticed a figure standing a little farther away. A burly man in a white shirt and black trousers. His eyes gleamed coldly in the dark.
It was Herbert.
I hadn’t expected to see him again. I thought he had completely disappeared from my life. He should have been living happily with Caroline. Why was he here now? This was no coincidence—he had come on purpose.
“What are you doing here?” I asked coldly.
Herbert approached with anger and disdain in his expression.
“I happened to see you with another man. I see you’re not so happy anymore,” he sneered.
I was infuriated by his words. Why did he speak to me like that?
“I have nothing to do with you anymore. Whoever I’m with is none of your business!” I snapped.
Not giving him a chance to respond, I turned and walked into the building, my steps quick and my anger rising.
Bella’s POV:
When I closed the door, a man’s foot had already stepped in. I used all my strength to try to push him out, but I was no match for Herbert. He forced the door open with a hard shove, and I stumbled back, nearly falling. As soon as he barged in, I shouted, “What do you want? This is my home! Leave immediately!”
Herbert slammed the door shut behind him. The loud sound made me flinch in fear. I took two steps back, my voice trembling as I demanded, “Get out of here! You’re not welcome here. Did you hear me?”
But Herbert seemed completely unfazed. He lunged at me, and I turned to run into the room, screaming, “Help!”
Suddenly, a large hand grabbed my arm from behind, and another covered my mouth. The moonlight streaming through the window illuminated his face. His hair was disheveled, not as neat and polished as it used to be. A beard shadowed his chin, and his cold, sharp features looked thinner, almost gaunt. He appeared darker, more brooding than I remembered.
“What’s wrong with him?” I thought.
“Why doesn’t he look as proud and put-together as before? Is he not happy with Caroline?”
But all of this was his choice! Why had he come to me now?
“Wuwu…” I tried to make noise, but his hand muffled my cries. Herbert gripped the back of my neck with one hand and kept his other hand over my mouth. He glared at me, his voice low and furious.
“I didn’t expect you to have an affair with Klein! He drove hundreds of kilometers just to see you. Bella, what kind of woman are you? Why are all these men obsessed with you?”
The veins on his forehead bulged, and I knew from experience that he was on the verge of losing control. I struggled with all my might, but his grip on my neck was unyielding. I couldn’t move.
“What? Are you thrilled to be so close to Klein? You don’t want me to touch you, is that it?” Herbert’s anger only grew. His words stung, and I felt a surge of fury. I punched his chest with my fists and kicked his legs with my high heels, but he didn’t even flinch. He just stared at me with that terrifying expression.
