Chapter 328:
“I’m worse off than you now, okay? You’re just dealing with a breakup, I got fired! Do you understand? And my lease is up in two days. I was waiting for my salary to pay the rent, and I told the landlord I wouldn’t be renewing.”
I frowned. I grabbed Joey’s hand and asked, “You lost your job? Did Herbert do this to you?”
I immediately felt guilty. I shouldn’t have had Joey come with me to find Herbert. After all, Joey worked for the Wharton Group. She had offended both Herbert and Caroline because of me.
“It’s not the boss, it’s Caroline. That damn Caroline,” she replied bitterly.
“Caroline returned to the company and got her supervisor position back. She’s been causing trouble for me, so I submitted my resignation letter. I’ll start looking for a new job tomorrow!” Joey said casually.
I felt deeply guilty.
“I’m sorry, Joey. It’s all because of me,” I said.
She lost her job because of me. I truly felt sorry. Joey smiled and said, “Why don’t you let me stay with you for a few months?”
I nodded quickly.
“Not only will I let you stay for a few months, but I’ll also provide you with free breakfast, lunch, dinner, fruit, milk, and all the daily necessities you need,” I replied.
“Thank you, dear,” Joey smiled.
I picked up my phone and noticed it was out of battery. I quickly plugged it in to charge, and as soon as it turned on, a text message popped up. I suddenly slapped my forehead.
“Oh no!”
“What’s wrong?” Joey asked, her brow furrowing in concern.
“Yesterday, I agreed to start working at the new company, but I completely forgot because I was too upset. The company texted me yesterday, telling me I no longer needed to come in since someone else had already filled the position!” I replied with a pout.
Joey shrugged.
“It’s no big deal. Anyway, you weren’t really happy with that company. Why don’t you come with me tomorrow to find a new job? We can work at the same company and take care of each other.”
“Okay,” I nodded.
Just then, my phone rang.
I looked down and told Joey, “It’s my mom calling.”
I answered the phone.
“Mom, what’s the matter?” I asked.
My mother’s voice was filled with anxiety.
“Bella, why can’t I get through to you? Something happened at home. Come back quickly!”
“What happened, Mom? Don’t scare me,” I said, my voice tinged with worry.
“You’ll know when you come back. It’s urgent,” my mother replied, her tone sharp with a hint of anger.
She hung up the phone. There was a strong sense of frustration in her voice that made me uneasy.
