Chapter 314:
I smiled, flattering her before hanging up the phone.
After ending the call, I thought for a moment. Last time, I had married Herbert in secret without telling my mother, and she had been upset with me for a long time. This time, I needed to learn from my mistakes.
Determined, I dressed up and headed to my mother’s house to share the good news with her.
When I arrived, I told her about my upcoming marriage with Herbert. Her face lit up with joy.
She took my hand and said, “Herbert is a very good man. It would be a pity if you missed him. Fortunately, both of you made up!”
Bella’s POV:
“Mom, I know. You’ve said the same thing many times.”
Although I was complaining, my tone remained gentle.
Mom rolled her eyes at me.
“I just want you to have a good life, but you always think I’m nagging.”
“Oh no, dear Mom, I don’t think that at all,” I replied quickly.
She smiled warmly before asking, “By the way, when are you planning to have the wedding? You didn’t have one last time, so you should make proper preparations this time.”
“Herbert said it will take about two months to plan, so we’re going to apply for the marriage certificate first. He wants the wedding to be grand, but I think all those formalities are exhausting,” I admitted.
“It’s good that you have a plan. But you still need a wedding. If you don’t have one, the Wharton family’s relatives might not acknowledge you, and that will only bring you more trouble in the future.”
Her words made me pause. I nodded, showing that I understood.
Herbert and I came from very different worlds. Even though we loved each other deeply, I knew we still had many obstacles to overcome. There would be challenges ahead, but for the man I loved, I was willing to face them head-on.
Herbert’s POV:
“Boss, please sign this document.”
I took the file and skimmed through it. Just as I was about to sign, my phone rang.
When I saw the name flashing on the screen, my expression darkened.
I signed the document, handed it back to my assistant, then picked up my phone and answered the call.
A woman’s distressed voice came through the receiver.
“Herbert.”
“Have you arrived in England?” I asked, keeping my tone neutral. I had arranged for Caroline to receive treatment from one of the best doctors there.
“I have,” Caroline replied softly.
“What is it? I’m busy with work.”
I had no patience for unnecessary conversations.
Her voice trembled, as if she was about to cry.
