Chapter 313:
Tomorrow, we would be applying for our marriage certificate. I had to dress beautifully for such an important day.
But as I sifted through my closet, I realized I had nothing suitable—just a few winter coats and some sweaters. That wouldn’t do.
I needed to go shopping.
This time, I wouldn’t be stingy. Tomorrow was a special day, and I had to look my best.
I hoped that this marriage would be my last, so I immediately made up my mind to buy a new outfit for the occasion.
Ring… Ring…
At that moment, my phone rang.
Excitedly, I picked it up, expecting it to be Herbert. But when I glanced at the screen, Joey’s name was flashing instead.
I frowned immediately.
Last night, Joey had walked in on Herbert and me during an intimate moment. It had been beyond embarrassing.
She was definitely going to tease me about it.
Sure enough, the moment I answered, Joey’s mischievous laughter came through the receiver.
“I bet you just woke up.”
I responded frankly, “Yes, you’re absolutely right. We were up all night.”
When it came to Joey, the more I tried to hide something, the more she would tease me. So this time, I decided to own up to it.
“No way! The whole night? I thought I scared your boss!” Joey sneered.
“Don’t worry. He’s braver than ever,” I replied playfully.
Joey laughed and continued teasing me.
“You really are the best at this kind of thing.”
“If you don’t believe me, I could lend you my boss for a night. You’d get a firsthand experience,” I joked.
“Forget it! You’d probably cry if I took you up on that offer!”
Joey kept up the banter, but I wasn’t in the mood to keep going back and forth. Softening my tone, I changed the subject.
“Be serious. When do you get off work? Come shopping with me—I need to buy clothes.”
Joey paused for a moment before exclaiming in surprise, “Did I hear that right? You actually want to buy clothes? Oh, right, you’re the president’s wife now.”
“I’m going to apply for the marriage certificate with Herbert tomorrow!”
I shared my good news proudly.
“No way! That fast?”
Joey sounded shocked.
“I don’t have anything nice to wear. It’s frustrating,” I complained.
Without missing a beat, Joey responded, “I have the afternoon off. I’ll go shopping with you!”
“You’re the best!”
