I understood what Amy was thinking, so I patted her on the shoulder and offered her some comfort.
“With the boss here, your efforts will definitely be recognized.”
“Okay, I understand,” Amy nodded, her expression softening.
“I’m leaving now. Call me if you have time,” I said, carrying the box with my things as I made my way out of the storage room.
As soon as I entered the corridor, I saw Selina coming from the opposite direction in her high heels. For Amy’s sake, I didn’t want to have a confrontation with her, so I pretended not to see her and continued walking forward.
However, Selina reached out and stopped me.
“What do you want to do?” I asked, staring at her.
Selina lowered her gaze to the box in my arms.
“You’re no longer an employee of the QW Law Firm. If you’re taking things out of the company like this, how am I supposed to know if you’ve taken anything from the company? If something goes missing, I’ll have to take responsibility.”
“What do you want?” I raised my chin and asked. I didn’t want to engage with her, but Selina had clearly decided to cause trouble. It seemed that it wasn’t enough for her. She had successfully provoked the anger inside me.
“I want to check your stuff. Please cooperate,” Selina sneered.
I stared at her angrily, and she returned my glare with disdain. Just then, Amy quickly stepped forward.
“Manager, I packed everything for Bella. I can testify that there’s no company property in the box.”
Selina glanced at Amy and said, “Bella? It seems your relationship is very close. How do I know if you’ve stolen company property together?”
“You’re slandering me…” Amy’s eyes turned red with anger.
I knew Selina wouldn’t stop until she humiliated me. Fine, if that’s what she wanted, I’d help her. Without hesitation, I poured the contents of the box onto the floor. Everything scattered across the floor with a loud noise, drawing the attention of everyone else in the office.
I tossed the paper box aside and pointed at Selina.
“Didn’t you suspect that I took the company’s stuff? Now my belongings are here. Please look through them one by one and see if there’s any company property in these things! If not, kindly put my things back in the box, or I’ll sue you for slander!”
My counterattack made Selina lose her arrogance.
She glanced at the scattered items on the ground and said, “I’ve already checked them. There shouldn’t be anything from the company, but you scattered them all over the floor. I’m not responsible for picking them up for you!”
I stopped her before she could leave.
“Selina, it’s fine if you don’t pick them up today, but you’ll need to apologize to me!”
“Are you kidding me? Why should I apologize to you?” Selina’s voice was sharp and filled with anger.
“Well, if you don’t apologize, I’ll hire a lawyer and sue you for slander. Anyway, I’ve already received compensation, and I can use it to take you to court,” I said, speaking casually.
Wasn’t she just mocking me for getting paid and compensated? Now, I could use that money against her.
