Chapter 278:
I frowned and looked at her. When I was about to refuse, I saw her flattering smile—full of pleading.
I couldn’t bring myself to reject her. After all, Bella rarely begged me. Finally, I turned to Joey and said seriously, “My requirements are very high, so you’ll need to keep up with the pace. If you can’t keep up, I won’t continue to tutor you. Even if Bella begs me again, I won’t agree.”
“Mr. Wharton, I will work very hard,” Joey quickly nodded in response.
“Alright, let’s eat!”
I lowered my head to cut the steak, still in a bad mood. Joey’s presence had stolen the time I would have spent alone with Bella.
Bella’s POV:
Herbert finally agreed to our request. That was good.
In fact, I didn’t tell him in advance on purpose because I knew he would refuse.
The CPA exam was my goal, and I had to pass it.
If I lived with Herbert, we’d spend the rest of the night in bed, and I wouldn’t have the energy to study the next day.
If this continued, I wouldn’t pass the exam.
To ensure my success, I had to let Herbert suffer a little.
I wasn’t fully ready to live with him yet, and he hadn’t even looked at me during dinner.
It was very obvious that he was angry.
In order to calm him down, Joey and I were both doing everything we could. In the past, it was Herbert’s job to wash the dishes. I even took the initiative to prepare fruits for him. My attitude was very cooperative.
Although Herbert was angry, he was very serious when teaching. Joey and I were also very focused. Time passed quickly. The evening classes came to an end, and Joey and I had learned a lot. By ten o’clock at night, Herbert was still sitting on the sofa.
I walked over with a smile and said, “I’m staying here tonight. There are only 30 days left before the exam, and I must try my best to pass it.”
I quickly glanced at Herbert’s expression, then walked over to him.
“Herbert, it’s getting late. You should go home and get some rest!”
I picked up his briefcase, ready to send him off.
Herbert glanced at Joey, who was in my room, and then turned to leave, his face dark with frustration.
“I’ll walk you out!”
I quickly followed him, clutching his briefcase in my arms. In the dark corridor, Herbert turned his head to look at me and said, sounding displeased, “Why did you do this?”
“What? Why?”
I lowered my head, not daring to look him in the eyes.
“I don’t mind if you invite Joey to the class, but why didn’t you tell me beforehand? And why is she staying at your house?”
Herbert accused me. I rushed forward to hold his arm and comforted him.
“It’s already 10 o’clock after class. It’s not safe for Joey to go home alone, and she often stays with me.”
“Then what should I do?” Herbert asked, still angry.
