“Okay, I won’t,” I said.
Herbert let go of me, sat down on the sofa, and asked, “For the exam, how can I help you? Do you want me to bribe the examiner, or should I find someone to give you the answers?”
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier that you were so capable? I wouldn’t need to study so hard.”
I deliberately echoed him.
“I want to make it clear that I can’t help you with any illegal things.”
Herbert smirked. I chuckled.
“Actually, I don’t have those thoughts. I just want you to help me with my studies. You passed the CPA exam at the age of 25, and you’re also a top student at Austin, right? By the way, I remember you said that as long as you graduate in a professional field and work hard enough, you’ll definitely pass the CPA exam. I’m now majoring in accounting, and I’m very hardworking. If you can help me, I’ll definitely pass the exam.”
I tilted my head and looked at him. I really wanted Herbert’s guidance. He smiled.
“It seems that I have no way to refuse?”
“If you don’t give me guidance, I’ll go find someone else. I’m very familiar with a professor in the Department of Accountancy!”
I looked up at Herbert with a teasing glint in my eyes. I was sure he knew that the professor in question was Hank!
I wasn’t really planning to go to Hank. I was just joking. Herbert pulled me closer and threatened, “If you dare to go find Hank, I’ll break his legs!”
It was a joke, but I noticed the blue veins bulging on Herbert’s forehead, and the intensity in his eyes grew terrifying.
I quickly realized that I couldn’t make such jokes with him; his possessiveness was overwhelming.
So, without hesitation, I immediately said, “I won’t go find anyone else. I need your guidance.”
Herbert’s expression softened.
“In the future, read and review during the day, and I’ll come to tutor you at seven o’clock in the evening. Stay focused!”
“Okay.”
I nodded quickly, not daring to provoke the overbearing man anymore.
It was nearly eleven o’clock at night. I nudged Herbert, who was still watching TV, and reminded him, “It’s late. Go back and rest. You have to work tomorrow.”
Herbert stood up and walked straight to the bathroom.
“I’ll take a shower first.”
Hearing this, I quickly ran over and stopped him.
“I meant, you should go back to your home!”
Herbert pinched my chin and said softly, “Tonight, I want to sleep here.”
“How is that possible?”
I widened my eyes.
He wanted to live here? God, he wanted to live here with me? I wasn’t used to that. I needed some time.
