Chapter 268:
Hearing this, I quickly snapped into action and said, “Come in!”
Herbert stepped inside, and I pointed to the sofa.
“Please… please sit down!”
Bella’s POV:
After Herbert sat down, I felt a little nervous.
“I’m going to make coffee.”
Without waiting for him to respond, I turned around and walked into the narrow kitchen to prepare coffee for Herbert.
I hadn’t expected him to come to see me today. I felt very nervous, and my heart beat faster.
Five or six minutes later, I came out of the kitchen with a cup of hot coffee.
I placed the cup in front of Herbert with both hands.
“Thank you.”
Herbert was very polite today, but also somewhat cold. I couldn’t quite guess his mood at the moment.
In particular, he was wearing sunglasses, so I couldn’t see his eyes—making it even harder for me to figure out what to do next.
Perhaps he noticed my discomfort, because he took out a bank card from his pocket and placed it on the narrow tea table.
“This is the card Klein and Vivian gave me. It contains a total of $13,000. $2,000 is for your medical expenses, $5,000 is for the employment contract compensation, and the remaining $6,000 is for mental distress and work delay. These amounts were calculated by my lawyer according to various regulations. It should be quite professional. There’s nothing better to discuss. Are you satisfied with this compensation?”

Herbert looked at me and asked.
I crossed my arms and replied, “Since it’s been handled by a lawyer, I’m not dissatisfied. Ah, this is the first time I’ve been slapped and received $6,000 for it. It seems my face is already worth quite a lot. What else can I say?”
I laughed at myself. Over the years, I had indeed been slapped many times. Some of those times, I had gotten my revenge, while others, I had never had the chance. This time, though, I was compensated.
But why did I feel so uncomfortable? In the past, I had considered compensation and had agreed to it. But if I truly wanted the money, why had I always been the one to get hurt?
Herbert took two pieces of paper from his pocket and said, “If you don’t have any objections, please sign these reconciliation documents.”
I found a pen and signed my name on both of the documents.
Herbert continued, “The password for the bank card is 6.”
“Yes.”
I nodded.
After discussing the compensation, I really wanted to say something, but suddenly, there was nothing left to talk about. I didn’t know what to say.
Then, he stood up and said, “I’m leaving.”
“Oh.”
