Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 254

Chapter 254:

Then he walked over to the bed, picked up a piece of tableware from the table, and handed it to me, as if offering me something to eat.

I didn’t want to speak to him, so I turned my face away.

Herbert placed the chopsticks on the table, then walked over to where my phone had been smashed.

He sat down in a chair and tried to put the broken pieces of my phone back together, attempting to turn it on.

Unfortunately, the phone was too damaged, and he couldn’t get it to work. After a few tries, he finally gave up.

At that moment, a subtle shift occurred in my emotions. Though he had been angry just a moment ago, now he seemed different from before.

In the past, he would have stormed off in anger or continued to argue with me. He might have even slapped me and called me shameless.

But even so, it was undeniable that Herbert was very irritated.

While I was lost in thought, a hand suddenly extended, offering me a mobile phone.

It was Herbert’s phone. There was a message on the screen. I didn’t want to see it, so I pushed his hand away. However, he grabbed my wrist and forced the phone into my hand, making me look at it.

I felt disgusted and tried to push the phone away, but unexpectedly, it fell to the ground. I couldn’t hear the sound of the phone hitting the floor, but I could see it happen.

After a long pause, I saw from the corner of my eye that Herbert was bending down to retrieve his phone from under the bed. He silently placed it back on the bed, then walked to the window and stared outside.

When I looked down, I saw the message on the phone screen:

“I’m sorry!”

At first, I thought I was mistaken.

Upon closer inspection, I realized it was Herbert who had typed the message. I was surprised. Would the arrogant Herbert really apologize?

I looked up and saw his back as he stood by the window. At that moment, I felt incredibly lonely. Though I couldn’t see his face, I could still sense the sadness he was carrying.

For the first time, I felt regret. Why had I argued with him? After all, he had come to take care of me.

I felt like I had gone too far.

Should I apologize to Herbert as well? I lowered my head, feeling conflicted.

After a while, when I looked up again, he was gone.

I scanned the room, and it was clear—he was really gone.

Had he gone back? At first, I felt relieved. I didn’t have to face the awkwardness of the situation anymore, nor did I have to decide whether or not I should apologize. But after a while, I started to feel disappointed. The longer I thought about it, the more lost and panicked I became.

In the silence of the night, I couldn’t hear a thing. The utter stillness made me uneasy.

Though the hospital should have been a safe place, I didn’t feel safe at all.

I wanted to call Joey to stay with me, but it was too late. Joey had already been working hard and was likely exhausted. Tomorrow was the weekend, and she had to go back to her hometown to visit her mother.
