“You may have noticed from our invitations that tonight is not only a celebration but also a charity auction. We have gathered a selection of artwork and ornaments that will be auctioned this evening. All proceeds from tonight’s auction will be donated to charitable organizations.”
She paused before continuing, “Of course, if you wish to contribute in other ways, donations are also welcome. We have arranged a team to collect funds, which will be used to support children in need. These donations will help improve their living conditions and provide them with better opportunities. We are committed to full transparency, and the allocation of funds will be legally disclosed for everyone to see.”
The host then added, “For those interested in donating, you may do so at the registration counter. Additionally, the auction featuring items donated by Mr. and Mrs. Reina will begin in half an hour. We hope for your generous support!”
One by one, the guests moved toward the registration counter to make their contributions.
I instinctively reached for my bag, only to realize I hadn’t brought much cash with me.

Just as I was contemplating this, Klein pulled a check from his pocket. With a lighthearted chuckle, he said, “I already took care of it. We can donate together!”
I took the check from his hand and saw the amount—$4,000.
But what caught my attention even more was the way it was signed: Klein & Bella.
Seeing our names written side by side made me frown.
As far as I knew, joint donations like this were usually made by married couples or people in a relationship. But Klein and I were simply employer and employee. This felt entirely inappropriate.
“This… doesn’t seem like a good idea,” I said hesitantly.
Klein, however, waved off my concerns.
“This is just a donation in our names. As long as we’re contributing to a good cause, that’s what matters. I’ll go register. Wait here for me!”
Before I could stop him, Klein had already walked away, disappearing into the crowd.
I sighed, debating whether to go after him, but with so many people at the registration counter, I decided against it.
Instead, I stood up and made my way to the bathroom.
At the sink, I washed my hands, lost in thought.
Lifting my gaze to the mirror, my breath caught.
A woman in a red fishtail dress was staring at me through the reflection.
Caroline’s expression was full of hostility. It was obvious she had come to pick a fight.
What an irritating woman.
I had already divorced Herbert. I had stepped away from their relationship entirely. So why was she still looking for trouble?
I had no interest in engaging with her, so I turned and walked toward the door.
I barely took two steps before she blocked my path.
“It seems I underestimated you. You really are quite skilled. The moment you divorced Herbert, you immediately latched onto Klein. Have you been working this hard just to marry into the Wharton Family for money?”
Her voice dripped with mockery.
