Chapter 167:
He whispered, “Is there a need to do this?”
What Herbert said made me feel incredibly bitter.
Is there a need to do this? It was his lover who had caused me all this trouble.
“Now I’ll let you check it thoroughly, so you won’t accuse me of taking anything if something goes missing in the future,” I retorted.
I was a little agitated. I had hoped to handle this calmly, but I couldn’t. I squatted down and started packing my clothes and daily necessities back into the suitcase. Herbert stood aside, silently watching. Once the suitcase was locked, I grabbed it and turned to leave without looking at him.
I walked straight to Caroline, whose eyes were gleaming with triumph.
“Only the owner of this house has the right to check. You don’t have the right to order me yet!”
With that, I turned and walked out.
“You…” Caroline was angry but didn’t finish her sentence.
When I reached the entrance, I suddenly turned around and smiled at her.
“I don’t want this house or this man. Take everything you want. I’ll start a new life from now on!”
With that, I left, leaving Herbert and Caroline staring in surprise.
In truth, what I said wasn’t just for Caroline—it was for myself. I needed to let go of all this and start a brand-new life.
Herbert’s POV:
Bella left.
When she left, she did so with confidence and freedom. Looking at her retreating figure, I couldn’t help but admire her. This woman gave me a different feeling the moment she entered my life. On the outside, she appeared tough, but inside, she was soft. She was straightforward, never hypocritical, and very stubborn when faced with setbacks. She was unlike the women I had dated before.
“Herbert, you will need someone to take care of you in the future. Why don’t I move in and take care of you?”
Caroline turned around and sat beside me. I didn’t look at her and responded directly, “If you think that house is too small, I can rent a bigger one for you.”
“Herbert, that’s not what I meant.”
Caroline was eager to explain.
“I’m used to living alone,” I replied. I didn’t love Caroline anymore, and it was impossible for me to allow her to move in with me.
She then said, “Herbert, I don’t mean anything else. I know my physical condition. I just want to see you every day. I’m only happy when you’re happy.”
“Really?”
I raised my head and stared into her eyes. Was her intention really that pure? I didn’t believe her.
Recalling what she had just said to Bella made me even angrier. If it weren’t for Caroline’s condition, I would have kicked her out already.
“You don’t believe me?”
Caroline reached out and grabbed my hand. I hated her touch, so I quickly withdrew my hand and walked to the French window.
“I want to be alone for a while. You go back first,” I said, keeping my back to her.
